For somewhat of an explanation(gotta put it down incase of spoilers) I believe the games about a traumatized kid and their backstory, and the ending is us finding out what we were witnessing was what went on in our adult, protagonist's head after an overdose. They've probably gone through much worse, but the memories we saw were probably the kid's core memories from their childhood.

I'm so delighted that Happy Game got into the mainstream a bit with Grizzy and Markiplier. This studio, Amanita Design, is by far my favorite in the entire video game industry. They have such a unique and intuitive way of building worlds that I can't think of any other game that comes close to their creative genius, all across the board. I actually think that Happy Game is one of their weaker releases, it's a return to the Botanicula days in a way. The game that I consider to be their reigning masterpiece is Machinarium. It isn't horror, just a puzzle game. I would recommend it to anyone who has the time to play it (and it is quite short). I would love to see Grizzy play it as well.

@@MoreGrizzy Oh yes, and premise of Happy Game is that the main character was dying (presumably of overdose) throughout the events of the game. These are his last seconds of brain activity; a reliving of his childhood made nightmarish due to the substances he was addicted to. It's why the game is so unpredictable and often includes bright flashing lights. He is actually experiencing seizures, and the part of the brain that controls logical thought is malfunctioning. The hints leading up to the reveal where he is lying on his back in an alleyway were extremely subtle. If you look closely, the creature that attacks him after he "wakes up" from each sequence has branch like arms. These are meant to be neural pathways I believe. Same thing with the trees at 45:25. The final sequence is brilliant as well, it's like a sparse graveyard of memories interrupted by the nervous system misfiring before it is destroyed completely, creating an intense pain response that we see as the boy being electrocuted. Ultimately the game is very depressing lmao. I can assure you Machinarium has an uplifting story, but the puzzles are also much harder at times... I hope you do play it in the future regardless!
