Ran across this about a year ago and wondered how well it works. Just did a pedal commander on my wife's can am F3t, and wow. The throttle lag is gone.

The reason that fly by wire bikes have a lag is so the plastic gears that are located in the throttle body control unit are not slamming into each other causing premature wear on the plastic gears. I have seen several bikes come into shop, complaining about a lag as they are riding through the rpm range because in tuners you also have the ability to adjust the throttle response and they set it to race mode this causes the plastic gears to wear or even brake over time depending on how hard they drive the throttle. The gears are not replaceable. The whole throttle body will need to be replaced. If you want the response of a carburetor bike get a carburetor bike. I see the results at my shop from customers who did not know the premature wear that is taking place when they set there tuners to aggressive or track mode. Just giving you some insight on what is taking place mechanically. The throttle by wire system grip works on two potentiometers one is from 0-5 volts and the other is 5-0 volts and the throttle body electrical unit has two dc motors that operate off the same values. The quicker the response the harder the gears slap into each other. The throttle body butterfly has a metal gear that drives the plastic gear and in turn the plastic gear drives the second plastic gear.

Fly by wire technology doesn’t work with potentiometer. Are throttle sensor. Is a completely different and more complex technology

Normally pedal commander for car use potentiometer we use a true ECM that why our device is a little more expensive. Fly by wire technology is 100% safe ( can’t fail like for airplane ) and bike needed 100% safety specially for rain mode. No tuning can do that because on the original ECM there’s not the parameters to manage that. Thank you everyone

That is coded into the ECU and can't be changed without a tuner. The 80% limit is only under low RPM conditions to keep from binging the motor.

I have an FP3 tuner and set mine to 1:1 race mode cuz I liked the throttle response with minimal movement to the actual throttle, since harley's have such a long twist to get to full throttle. My throttle body only lasted about 1k miles and it stripped the gears in my throttle body causing me to have to spend several hundred bucks for a new throttle body as the gears are not replaceable.. It is nice but the stock throttle bodies at least on my old 2010 model won't handle it..

Doesn't add a single horsepower or ft-lb of torque. It's a throttle curve re-mapper. Just twist it harder and quicker for the same affect. Smoke and mirrors. Alters the throttle "feel" to give the illusion of performance.

How do you know in which mode you are in if there isn't a display to show it? Also, doesn't it make more sense to put the switch on the left side if you are changing the modes with the left hand?

Good question! You can see which way the skull is pointing, all the way to the left is rain, then so on. Normal is in the middle. Once you do it once, it's impossible to forget. Almost like a bike with no gear indicator, you remember what gear you're in. As for the left side mount, I'm sure it can be done!

Hello. We decide to use same strategy of racing bike with no signal to show each mode because is much safer to use. You must change the mode on the fly with not distractions even with gloves and poor visibility specially for rain mode. Any kind of signal on the dashboard will be a distraction and no easy to look specially when sun shines. You can feel very good on which mode you ride ( a lot of different between all ride modes ) and at every stop of the engine our device is disconnect and go back to road mode ( your bike ) . An other reason why is because fly by wire technology work with 3v ( for Harley-Davidson not 5 ) and any minimum voltage can create malfunction and that why we not use other function on the ecm. It's basically like the Posche knob on the steering wheel, where you can memorise how many turns will get you to what mode, except there you get the additional benefit of it showing you the mode on the screen. I would definitely put it on the left side, because it looks awkward how the left hand crosses over like that, it's too slow if you wanted to change it quickly, nevermind it isn't safe doing it like this, and by having it on the left you can keep your eyes on the road when you have memorised the position of the knob and the turns.
