I think they got rid of lanky mario because they were planning to have a lot more Mario 2 features, and Luigi in that game acts like Lanky Mario in this. But then for some reason it never really got past just the basic mario 2 mechanics.

One possible reason for removal of Lanky Mario: in Mario Maker 1, Lanky Mario can be acquired randomly from a regular SMB1 mushroom block. There were issues with people being able to make unfinishable levels by abusing this gimmick-feature. They could've just let out the random Lankies though.

I was under the impression they removed weird mushrooms because normal mushrooms had a 1 in 100 chance of being a weird mushroom and it allowed creators to create levels that were only possible with the right RNG. I might be totally wrong, but that was the impression I was under. They could, however, have just removed the RNG and left the costume in 😥

There's a 1% chance that the weird mushroom will appear instead of a normal mushroom, true, but you can also add them in levels manually as a normal power up with 100% chance - akin to a fire flower or any other power-up.

I could be totally wrong and this is just pure speculation on my part, but I’m willing to bet he tries to get Ryu-venge on all run killer levels. However, when he can’t beat it, he just decides not to upload the footage rather than showing himself failing the challenge. Basically pretending it never happened so we won’t know that he actually isn’t the best Mario Maker player there is (although he’s still obviously towards the top).

On the off-chance we get a SMM3 we need it to have everything we remember fondly from 1 & 2. Costume Mush, Lanky Mush, SMB2 Mush, Superball Flower and Master Sword. No reason not to have every playable character from every game style either.

It needs to have Peach playable though. She was robbed. Why do we need both player 3 and 4 to be Toads. Especially since ironically, she isn't even kidnapped in SMM2's story mode, instead Toadette is at one point (who is also playable). The sole reason I could think of for Nintendo not making Peach playable was fulfilling The Status Quo in the story mode but that didn't even happen so what gives.
