It was sonics BIG LEAP on to next gen hardware and it ended up looking and playing like ass From the E3 gameplay and the trailers people were absolutely convinced it was sonic adventure 3, and at one point, it was probably meant to be. But they dropped the title to just “Sonic the hedgehog” because it was clear about half way into development it wouldn’t be a worthy successor. There’s a load of cut content/better graphics/better physics seen in the E3 demo that wasn’t in the retail version, which implies they lost the current version and had to finish the game on an old build. They only had a year to develop it, only half of sonic team was working on it because the other half was working on secret rings, and Yuji Naka quit about half way through. And all this happened only a year after Iizuka was hospitalized for being overworked on Sonic Heroes when the team was divided in half to work on Shadow the Hedgehog.

@@Keronic one of the items that were cut was a rainbow gem that acted as all the chaos emeralds at once and let you be super sonic in the stage that was available at the time (kingdom valley) In retail you can’t go super in the stages at all. But thankfully we have projects like p-06 letting us see what a completed product of it could’ve looked like

@GlytchGames thing is, I did play the game first on a ps3 (the absolute WORST way to play it) and at the same time I also was playing unleashed for some reason I kept playing 06 more cause it had more "adventure" vibes than unleashed and I was a very big adventure fan I liked the graphics and the aesthetics of it more than anything it was kinda its artstyle (and probably any 2006 game) that I loved

Level ports are stunning work, because it takes a lot of effort to find solutions for each game's differences, and how to make them play nice with each-other in the process of making something work somewhere else it was never designed to. P06 is stunning work, because it takes an astronomical amount of effort to take assets from one engine, and rebuild them from scratch in another, in a way that mirrors the original work in a way that looks and feels natural and correct. Plus there's the added work to try and make improvements. This? This is unfathomable. The amount of work it had to have taken to make EVERY asset here work as envisioned in the original, UI, animations, sound, scripting, all of it, AND PACK IT INTO A DIFFERENT EXISTING GAME. I can't even begin to properly extrapolate to people who don't know the intricacies of game dev/modding just how insane this is to see visually in front of me. This is the hardest possible challenge you could pursue. Hats off to the mod team (I pray it's a team). There are so many levels to this beyond just "oh neat, it's 06 levels in Generations" that it's staggering to witness.

This is a seriously impressive mod. The only little nitpick I have is in the Mach Speed section (specifically in the intro Kingdom Valley clip) where Sonic seems to slide forward a little bit before moving his legs again after landing. I don’t know if that’s something that can be tweaked as I ain’t a coder in the slightest but that’s just a minor detail really.

The framework of Sonic Generations is so versitile. If you actually analyze the physics of the game, it is actually the closest to real classic Sonic 3D physics. But it can also be used to make games like Sonic Colors, or you could make a gameplay more similar to rhe rush games, or just make an almost 1 to 1 Sonic Adventure remake, it was so awesome, yet I don't understand why did Sonic team decided to just throw it away and limit themselves to the very binary ans static framework that they have simce Lost world.

​@@Keroniceven with only the gameplay its easy to see its gens because YOU ARE BOOSTING and theres no character switching (like switching to tails in wave ocean, to silver in kingdom valley) plus theres so many changes to the level design that even if the graphics replicated retail, its still pretty easy to see its gens
