You need to get the build sheet for it. If that is the sleeper, it was not to be sold on any American A model. It was strictly for the Australian market. Last I heard at the ATHS show, Kenworth was looking for that truck or one like it with an original 36" Aero1 years ago. You got a gem my friend. Restore it ASAP!!!

I’ve been driving big trucks since august 1972. I’ma driver Instructor at a truck driving academy now, I drive sometimes. I’ve seen one or two 36” aerodyne sleeps back in the day, but not since the early eighties. We called them coffin sleepers due to the size. Not much room to turn over in there. I wish you would take the time to save the round eyed beauty. They just aren’t many left on the road, and as an old driver still driving I would consider it a great favor if you would at least consider saving her. She’s worth it, and I believe you are as well. Put her back on the road with her own sleeper. Please, don’t change the old girl by stripping her sleeper off and let her die. SAVE THAT OLD GIRL! Make her ride the pavement again. Only YOU can do it now… its all up to you…

As a few have mentioned, they were pretty much the standard bunks on our Australian W models and SAR model throughout the late 70’s and 80’s. Then the T900 /T600/T650/C500 had them in the 90’s until the aero 2 was released mid 90’s.

Hi guys . Thought I would let you know that the 36 inch airo 1 sleeper was fitted to alot of Kenworth models over here in Australia . The w900 and SAR of the 70s and early 80s . They were that well liked that in the last few years KW have done a legend series of those old trucks , with the same stile of bunk on them .

I’m a long time lover of the old school KWs. You have a gem, a one of a kind. Please don’t split that truck up. Save it and rebuild it! I have Autocar trucks myself and I thought about doing the same thing to my trucks but I didn’t. But I’ll tell y’all one thing, it’s badass when you can tell someone that you rebuilt a truck like that to the original condition like it was off the assembly line. It’s a sexy truck now being that old school style. You’ll get a lot more people wanting to see it that way. Y’all need to build that truck as is and keep it like original. Doing that would be giving respect to that old truck and giving it a new life. Keep together, don’t piece it out. That’s just my opinion and y’all have fun doing what you want. Take care now!

Kenworth released the 60" flat top sleeper in 1974 and the 60" aero 1 sleeper was released on the Bicentennial edition W900 in 1976 and was continued due to popular demand. My guess is this truck was originally a 36" flat top that later had an aero 1 roof cap cut down and added to the sleeper. That suspension is Kenworth's 4-bag air ride suspension that was used prior to the 8-bag suspension.

New here and its nice to see just people working together for a change in this world gone MAD! That single bunk aero was mostly an overseas addition but could be added here as an aftermarket add on. Most of us (me from 1977 till recent, dad since my birth, two younger brothers, grandpa, uncle and two cousins, a 120 year old trucker family affair) drivers didn't really pay them much mind actually. We were all into the "big bedroom" flat top large cars of the day. A thing of young and cocky youth gold coast bound lol. The first double bunk aero was mostly looked at as a owner op or company team ride and weren't actually overall that numerous due to weight and length laws of the day. Rigs like those were normally invested in for specific needed reasons as I recall talking to drivers doing the investing. Nice find and looking at it now, it will be a special piece out there amongst the same ole same ole. Be safe drivers...back out.

Saw one in So Cal 15-20 years ago, don't remember if it was a W9 but I think it was on a T8 or T600. I remember the sleeper because a driver I was working with tried to sell the mattress from his old KW with a 36 inch Areo bunk to the O/O that was dropping containers in Mira Loma in a black KW with a 36 inch areo sleeper. It was so rare to see a coffin sleeper you took notice. The coffin sleepers were deluxe in their day but look very Spartan with what is out there today. Back then you had length laws to contend with which was why cab overs were popular, rode many a kidney buster and lived out of many a coffin. You couldn't team with a slob in those tiny sleepers, you had to keep your gear clean and tight. The good ole days, LOL. Praying for everyone's safe travels.

Justin you need to save the whole thing or atleast the hood, cab and sleeper and put it all on a newer chassis! Other wise the sleeper isn't going to even look right on a newer cab and it'll look like a Joe Mcgee put it together. It'll be like a Peterbilt with a Kenworth sleeper on it. I saw one like that in Florida...now I just wonder if this is the one....sadly all my stuff is in a storage unit as we speak as I moved from Illinois to Florida and I'm currently in trucking ....I'd say when I snapped the pic was our last vacation drive to Florida....maybe 1991, I think it was at a flying j near Tampa....but considering these were big in New Zealand I wonder if this was a special order....

What I find impressive is the way that wrecker was fired up... what I find is the CORRECT way, is apparently not that common... Start with minimum fuel, and let it settle down and warm up on its own

On your tow master you need to take approx 4o " of alum frame , taper both ends , rip length ways take of one flange & approx 4" of web & if you really want to get fancy take the remaning flange & rip it length ways & take approx 1" of flange , it is way easier to tow & safer!!

I still have the 1976 W900 Bicentennial Edition my Dad bought new. Mom dropped he an I off at Colorado Kenworth the day we brought it home. A week later he picked up his K100 Bicentennial Edition. He sold the K100 in 1995.

I pulled Swinging Beef for National Carriers in the 1970's in a Red Demon mate to that Rig. It was a 1973 two sticker and I ran Coast to Coast in that Truck. Both M. Bruenger Inc, Wichita Kansas and National Carriers , of Liberal , Kansas. I would restore it and Run it. I would pull Live Stock I would flush the engine, Run the Lifters and all New Filters and check the Engine and Drain all the Oils1

She looks like she only needs a few bulbs and maybe a tire or two, lol. I think that kind of sleeper was more common than you remember. There was a truck with similar sleeper used for pulling an 5th wheel RV, if I can find the video I will put the link back here. I doubt you will have any problems selling off the rest of the truck. Stay safe and healthy.
