Yard work, maintenance, and home improvement on a property like that is going to add up to 20 to 40 hours a week. Even divided by two people, if both are working full time or even one full time and the other part time, there just isn't enough time to do it. It is also very easy to take on projects that go out of control or never get done. Then there is finding damage or incorrectly done work when you start looking around. @neTTer0h4 жыл бұрын
@@zoro115-s6b it wouldn't be crude animal fat, it will spoil and will definitely ruin cord and leather. And it smells. Tallow, however, would work better, but it is obviously more expensive than fat. @zoro115-s6b4 жыл бұрын
@@neTTer0h Tallow would likely be preferred for something like that. It's worth considering though that swords back in the day weren't meant to be pristine display pieces. They got bashed against things and covered in gore and often needed to be maintained in less-than-ideal conditions. At home things like beeswax, linseed oil, or tallow would be preferred. In the field, I'm sure lots of weapons wound up smeared with cooking grease just because it was what was on hand and kept them from rusting.

Ok I'm gonna help you Skal 😄 Brescia would be "BRESHA" (the "i" is silent). And principe is "PRINCHIPE". Beautiful sword by the way 😁
@Ari-elle-4204 жыл бұрын
I don't know it that's just how the company pronounces it, but we don't know how Latin was originally pronounced. Either of you could be correct
@elioamedeo4 жыл бұрын
@@Ari-elle-420 well the company is probably wrong XD. I used to get so angry in Italy when I saw McVeggie ads on TV, the way they pronounced it. Anyway as an Italian I can give you the modern pronunciation but I can't be 100% sure about the XV century one, what I can tell you is that it's definitely not Latin. There's a high probability it was something like "BRESSIA" with a very spanish sounding "s", and in that case the "i" is not silent. Regarding "Principe" that is probably a "CH". Ecclesiastical Latin had lost the "k" sound next to the "e" or "i" in the middle ages, so it's definitely not "PRINKIPE". Regarding a possible "s" sound, "PRINSIPE", in modern Italian, original Latin and later Latin the "c" is never pronounced as "s". That is something that only happens in traditional english pronunciation of Latin words, like Caesar which is pronounced as "SEEZAR" in the english world, where the original latin was "KAESAR" and the ecclesiastical is "CHEZAR". You might be right though because the sword's name is in Volgare, and we don't know how the regional accents of old Italian would say Principe. There's a high chance that it was a "CH" as in the modern variant, or a "TS" as in northern accents but we can't be sure. So I guess the modern "PRINCHIPE" is probably the safest choice. Sorry about the length XD

@@Ari-elle-420 I was taught all 'c's in Latin are 'k' sounds. So that would make principe, "prinkeepay"

@@Nobnoxious Ha. Some of the most intelligent, persistent, and talented people in history have died broke, alone, and in debt. People who revolutionized their fields of expertise. In many cases, nobody even remembered their name until 100 or more years later. And in this day and age, you're not even going to get that. Some of my favorite KZbin channels are silent. Some of my favorite artists have purged and disappeared. One of them is literally dead. January 7th, 2014. Nobody will ever know their names. Some people succeed in spite of luck. Most succeed because of it. And then there are those who were born into wealth through no act of their own whatsoever. People in their 60s who don't know how to use a washing machine. Absolutely useless, still has more money than you will ever dream of. No, luck is blind, drunk, and has a bad sense of humor.

Okay Skalla, let's talk about your sword here. Your blade is *sharp* with each slash it cuts beautifully, it pierces through with no problem at all and lacerates on its way out. Your blade will *KEEEEL*
@streamylc4 жыл бұрын
the fuller extending into the guard would give a massive relief as far as tolerance is concerned during smithing.... Personally, without the fuller relief (unless extremely skilled) you would be adding numerous hours creating a tight fitment across the entirety of the blade's faces.... It's kinda hard to put into words. Letting the fuller extend down takes away at least 30% of the fitment required. Think of it like those "Gator Grip universal sockets"... 2 sides of the bolt or nut head could be ignored (easier to explain with a picture; draw a hexagon, and you only need to match 4 sides rather than 6).... in an average sword's case, it would just give those 4 sides A LOT more wiggle room to match... or rather; draw a diamond (parallelogram) on a piece of paper.... and then try to cut another, by eye, to precisely fit the first.... you would quickly realize, how much easier it would be to do, if you gave yourself that fuller gap to work with. You wouldn't need to worry about EXACT dimensions of every single face, but rather just matching the blade angles/shoulder(s). You'd only be worrying about 2 angles and not 4. (honestly, you could probably FEEL this concept in your "half-swording:" video @Skallagrim, especially on the second technique kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKjYgoOcq7iGotE ) Seems silly to spend so much extra time on something so trivial, ESPECIALLY back in the day..... Why make it more complicated when you'll most likely be getting "other liquids" in every nook and cranny regardless.... I'd think techniques for tight fitment and/or time would come wayyyy before potential fluid penetration. $$$$$... talkin' pretty fancy details that might be on swords that (I'd bet) didn't even see battle.... and even then, might be completely unrealistic from a historical standpoint. IMO, blacksmiths get "good" by knowing the tricks to make things easier. The fewer times you need to swing your hammer, and the fewer times you need to heat, the better

Skall, with all due respect, not saying you are wrong, but i am having a hard time seeing that as a "type XVIIIa" , if i remember correctly a type XVIIIa should not have such a long handle, instead being more oriented to single handed use, it should not have a fuller , and should be a more narrow and straight profile that tapers to a point from the start. Having said that, i have a hard time clasifying it, but if i had to take a guess and looking to my example of "the sword, form and tought" i would say it falls more under the type XVIa. ... In fact, after a quick google search, i am convinced its a type XVIa.
