A business minister said she is investigating whether she can pay for a BBC gift after Sir Keir Starmer paid back more than £6,000 worth of gifts and hospitality.
Sarah Jones said she received a ticket to the BBC Proms over the summer and was a guest of the broadcaster, adding it “may not be possible” to pay it back as it was a gift in kind.
Kevin says: "Freebie-gate is consuming Labour."

Accepting personal gifts/freebies which have no bearing whatsoever on the political office functioning or efficiency (eg. Stationery/Office Furniture/Office rental/private car service), appears to be simple basic bribery. It is astounding that the personnel which inhabit political power are so devoid of ethics that this is not obvious to them. Surely it should be obvious that anyone who operates in public service and is essentially salaried by the taxpayer should be prohibited by a code of ethics from accepting "personal gifts" which may be seen as trying to "sway" a bias in a particular direction. After all, nothing in life is free. Imagine a Police officer or Judge or School Exam Paper marker doing the same, accepting personal "gifts" from an "interested party", It does not look good on their impartiality to discharge their responsibilities. Imagine a Parent giving a multiple thousand pound value "gift" to their child's GCSE exam paper marker. We are not talking about "free red pens here". The whole culture is puzzling and reeks of corruption. It also detracts from the genuine donations given to assist the Party, whichever one that is.
