To further that, it's caused more scrums and cheap shots to take place in recent years. Instead allowing guys to go 1 on 1 and get the fight out of their system, we get 5 man scrums with pushing, shoving, and in the confusion cheap hits with gloves still on. Not allowing actual fights to occur causes the pressure cooker to hit a critical mass that explodes into ugliness on the ice.

Maybe not every game but occasionally yeah we need to see the mitts drop from the tenders! Hockey is a emotional game and as a former goalie myself it’s hard to see D-Men constantly fight my battles. A good spirited line brawl/goalie fight never fails to get the fans into the game, gets the benches going, and is just in the spirit of the game. Anyone who disagrees with this statement has never played the game or is as casual of a fan as you can be.

I was born in 1996 and raised watching hockey in the early 2000s and onward and you ask the question "is letting the goalies fight a good idea?" Hard yes. Full stop. Non-negotiable. Fights draw eyes. Everyone loves a good scrap. With how fast the players are the hits carry more impact and make emotions run even hotter on the ice, yet there's surprisingly fewer fights in recent years. The game used to police itself and we've reached the precipice where players go back to being self policing or just hand the keys off to the league, NHLPA, and the on ice officials. Now fights like the 70s and 80s were ridiculous in their frequency and brutality, but fights policed the game and got the crowd going.

The officials have been an absolute joke this year. It's to the point where officials need consequences for how horrendous they've been. If coaches get fined for speaking out against the officiating, the same should happen to refs and linesmen for how bad they've called the game. Even suspensions should be on the table honestly. Need accountability.

I am a goalie myself, and yes, they should have been aloud to fight, its super fun to see a goalie fight, I personally LOVE to get involved with scraps in front of my net and when they slash at me when I have it covered, I will say, its pretty fun to be involved as a goalie, so yes, the on ice officials should have let them fight.

Its not the refs, its their bosses. Environmental-Social-Governance is all the rage in attracting corporate investments right now. So we have pride jerseys, thrown together makeshift trans games, co-ed allstar games, less fights, and more commercial breaks especially during scrums. Advertisers don’t like violence. The castration of society isn’t going to leave nhl unscathed.

I’m an old man. I’m a grandpa. And I love nothing more than the occasional full line brawl or goalies throwing haymakers! I love a good one on one fight too. What I think is bad for the game is the guy who gets checked really hard but legal, feels the need to go and start a fight. I think that shows weakness. If you get knocked into the next period by some dude that was a totally legal check then you should get up and tip your hat at him for giving out a huge legal hit and plan your next big check on him.

They have dictated Games for example in the Western Conference Finals in 2020 Alexander Radulov blatantly hooked zach wihteclould when he is trying to dump the puck in the neutral zone but whitecloud gets called for delay of game when it's clear as day he was being hooked but he gets the penalty if they called the right call which was hooking Vegas would have won that series and 7 but then again its Dallas they always get away with shit and that's a example of a Bullshit call

They destroyed the Pens game tonight. Holding Sid's stick, interference on Malkin. It was obvious the Pens weren't getting any calls. They reversed the outcome of the game.

Love the video! All these referees and TV announcers are NHL employees whose job is to brown-nose Bettman's demands. I stopped watching hockey games because of crap like this. The No Hitting League is soft and boring.

ESPN and the Referee saying that fights, especially goalie fights are not good for the game, truly shows that these guys don't know squat about hockey. Let the players, no matter who they are, fight, and get it out of their system. Having watched a lot of hockey fights over the decades, I've watched them, I have seen some of the best hockey being played afterwords than I've seen most other times, except in the playoffs. However in this BS woke society we live in these day's it is having a terrible influence on the game, and it will ruin the hockey experience. As it stands now, with the referees continually, stepping in the frustration and anger will get worse, and we will see more injuries as a result. Let them Play!

If it was a staged fight, I'd agree - those are bad for the game. But if a fight is organic because of the game and/or rivalry, an occasional goalie fight could be fantastic

I agree that the refs are getting in the way too much these days, that being said I know why this one was broken up... have you ever seen a player who has been kicked out of a game then allowed to fight after already being ejected? Really sucks because goalie fights are awesome but this is something the refs technically had to do after they decided to toss him

IMO the biggest issue here is Gibson, who puffed out his chest and then hid behind the linesman. If he wanted to fight he'd go all-out DET/COL goalies of 1996-98. Just go. Don't call attention to yourself so that the officials have time to intervene. Just GO! Pretending to want to fight should result in getting fought and/or an ejection. Let them fight. Throw them out after, if required. But none of this Crosby-esque posturing with, "you're just lucky that my posse is here to stop me," BS. I can understand owners wanting to protect their assets, but then they can minimize injuries by teaching their players how to fight, rather than take the fight out of them.

I'm a big fan of the Steve Coates mantra of "let 'em fight" but in this case the refs seemed to get it right. The scrum was almost over and Gibson just banging his stick was ridiculous. If he'd simply skated coast to coast and jumped in they'd have probably let him go a few rounds. But he just skated to half and started chirping so the ref told him to shut up. These viewership stats usually don't account well for the migration to streaming so you have to be careful whose statistics you look at. If anything's killing hockey viewership it's how ESPN and the NHL are bogarting the broadcast and streaming rights.
