The voice acting is atrocious in both languages. I play it on japanese, it's really bad there too. Worst part with japanese voices is that they don't actually even translate the game, they just put the same lines as English dub has for voices.

Or, more so, it sometimes doesn't suit how their characters are acting in the cutscene or are a bit underwhelming, but maybe that's because I really liked how the voice acting was done in the previous game. Some people can tolerate voices more than others. It's a JRPG; I don't expect the dub to be perfect and yet some people hating on it expect oscar-winning performances. As for this game, it had a shaky start, sure. But at the later half of the game, it didn't bother me at all.

Twilitblack thats great~ the dub has grown on me im currently at the beginning of chapter 3. My only gripe is the battle voices overlapp each other and when fighting human enemies, it sounds like flies buzzing in my ear. XCX did battle voices better. Whenever the charas yelled something, i always knew it was for a specific command. This game... ehh the onscreen prompts are good enough.

Case and point, compared to the rest of the cast, he’s just kind of a boring character that’s been done a million times already, and brings very little new to distinguish himself.

Fusion Honestly, I really don’t feel like that’s nearly enough to make Rex different; in fact, this is pretty common for characters who fit this trope in JRPG’s; that’s often how they manage to make enemies join their party, which literally all the party members in Xenoblade 2 were enemies at one point ( except for Tora ). So again, it just feels flat, and like I’ve seen this character a million times before. Beyond that, maybe it’s just me who dislikes this, but Rex just starts to feel like a character who’s physically incapable of disliking anybody, and will try to make friends with anybody with a pulse, which wouldn’t be such a problem if that didn’t make him seem so static and predictable. He never really changes much throughout the story, and when he does get development, it feels awkward or falls flat on it’s face, like when he loses Pyra to Torna and just suddenly gives up for like 5 minutes, despite that being very out of character for him, or when he came to the realization that he had to work with Pyra to get to Elysium after meeting Addam at Spirit Crucible Elpys, except isn’t that basically what he’s been doing the whole time. I’d even argue that he’s the weakest character in the cast, ( next to possibly Mythra, although, maybe I’d call her more irritating than weak ).

Kyler Vanderpol-Lim the generic voices in the Japanese version is what turned me away from it. The voices in the English version are far more unique. The choice of assigning different accents to each of the game's societies is a great idea.
