Magneto's comment about flying us an in-joke: Jean, Storm, and Rogue all fly in the comics. The scene with Bobby telling his parents he's a mutant was meant as a comming out as gay analogy...and pretty well done.
@thedoctor43272 ай бұрын
I once mentioned that scene and other parts of the films/comics that reflect LGBT issues to a homophobic "fan" of the X-Men. Their temper tantrum swearing off the franchise for its "agenda" was kind of funny.
@puremachinery2 ай бұрын
@@brandonparisien2381 Rogue wasn't originally able to fly in the comics either. She only gained the ability to fly (and also super strength and some other powers) during an arc where she was in the Brotherhood of "Evil" Mutants and fought Captain Marvel, permanently absorbing her powers and memories.
@SigTheSauceMan2 ай бұрын
26:00 Marie/Rogue's power is to absorb other people's powers. The longer she touches the person for, the longer she'll have their power for. But it's always temporary, and may kill the person whose power she is taking if she touches them for too long. So in this scene, she's taking Pyro's power away temporarily, and using it put the fires out. 26:15 Wolverine's skeleton is bonded with Adamantium. The bullet never got through the skull. It got through the skin and tissues, but stopped dead at the skull. The force of the bullet's impact (ie. like a concussion, though Wolverine would not suffer the long-term/permanent effects of one) is likely what knocked him out. 30:30 Curious that you didn't even question why Mystique and Nightcrawler look exactly alike, even standing next to each other... 31:45 It's actually Iceman's actor that played Lamplighter in The Boys, not Pyro's. 38:20 This character is Yuriko Oyama / Lady Deathstrike. Basically, her father is the one who figured out how to bind Adamantium to bone, but his technology was stolen by the people who used it on Wolverine. So Yuriko devoted herself to hunting Wolverine, who she believed dishonored her father by becoming the weapon he did. The movies don't show this, but her body is actually cybernetic, which is where she gets her healing factor from. It's good, but not even in the same world as Wolverine's. It would take hours to days to recover from major injuries/disfigurement (though that applies to her comic Earth-616 version, not this movie/Earth-10005 version). 40:30 Yes. Mystique is 100% naked at all times.

Magneto is cool because he isn’t the traditional “villain”. His goals and Charles over lap, mainly the desire of peace and security for mutant kind. However, Magneto’s ideas on how to achieve that vastly differ from Charles. Charles is Martin Luther King, Magneto is Malcolm X. And yes Mystique is usually nudy rudy. Also in the comics Mystique is Nightcrawler’s mom.

@@happyslapsgiving5421 I know that he did some rewrites for the first X-Men movie (Wolverine's "You're a dick" line was one of his additions and the infamous "toad that gets hit by lighting" quote was the remains of running gag of Toad making boasts about what a toad can do but all the other instances of it were cut so Storm's line is both cringe but also a bit of an orphaned punchline ). Years ago, I have visited the real-life building which was referred to as the Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in the movies - it's Toronto's majestic castle, Casa Loma. The hallway, underground tunnel, and classroom (maybe parts of the garden) scenes in X-men 1 & 2 were really at Casa Loma ... at least, that's what I was able to recognize from touring Casa Loma! 😁👍 cool experience‼

Nightcrawler is a fan favorite X-Men character, he's as famous as Beast and Wolverine. He's a master acrobat an expert swordsman, and as a romantic he's quite a hit with the ladies .... well, at least the ones who don't mind blue skin and sharp teeth! He's also got a very great sense of humor! I love Kurt! Also, once you see X-Men '97 .... you'll think the movies are not nearly as cool as they could have been! The writing, the characterization, the plots, the fight choreography, the design, the animation.....it's all next level top tier, it is the purest adaptation of the comics in animated form. I didn't hate the X-Men films, but after I watched the recent animated series I said to myself "Yeah, Singer and Fox should have done this instead." They made Cyclops cooler than Wolverine! Anyone who only knows the movies didnt think it was possible, but they gave Cyke some of the best fight moments in the series!

Genuinely greatest comic book villain of all time IMO. Depth of backstory, moral complexity, fantastic performances on screen, awesome powers, interesting schemes, relatable motivations, he's got it ALL. (Lex Luthor might be up there too given my more limited knowledge of his legacy in the comics, but he's never been translated to film in a way I've loved. Joker had one of the greatest performances ever by Heath Ledger, but as fun as he is, he doesn't have nearly the depth of Magneto. Don't even start with me about Thanos and his "durrrr let's kill half of everything then life will be great" asinine plan :P)

Correct, Mystique is not wearing clothes, because she can only change her body, not her clothing or other items she's carrying. So for example if she wore an X-Men uniform and changed into William Stryker, she would then be William Stryker in an ill-fitting X-Men uniform, which wouldn't be helpful for tricking anybody into thinking she's the real William Stryker.

The woman with Striker is Yuriko Oyhama, Lady Deathstrike. In the comics she dated Wolverine once. Her father was the man that came up with the process that Sriker used to bond the Admantium to his skeleton. In the comics she uses cyborgnetics to bond admantium to her. I thought it was brilliant to make her a mutant and give her the same abilities as Wolverine. It makes sense and is the best way to introduce her without using cyborg procedure to give her the claws. Her father is killed and Wolverine is framed for the murder. This is why she gets the procedure.

The reason why Jean’s powers aren’t the same is because Cebebro affected them and unlocked the Phoenix abilities in her, although that isn’t how she gets the Phoenix powers from comics. In the comics The Phoenix is a guardian of a source of ultimate power called the M’Kran crystal. The Sh’Air princesses Lilandra steals the crystal from its rest place to prevent her Brother getting it and uses her telepathic powers to contact Xavier for help to stop him. The Phoenix saga is told better in the 3rd season of the X-men animated series than in the next movie. The Sh’iar aliens aren’t even introduced in these movies.

Yes, Mystique is always nude. I don't believe her power allows her to alter the clothes, so anybody she shapeshifts into would be wearing the same outfit. By being nude she alters her skin to resemble clothing, even though it isn't. Same concept with super heroes who turn invisible. They turn themselves invisible but if their power doesn't include the clothing, then the power really only works if they take it all off. It's just one of those things you're not supposed to think about.
