Thanks for doing this! I was one of those who recommended this...now you know why. This is probably the most calming song of all time. As a sailor (sailing and 30 years in the Navy), I LOVE this! "The canvas can do miracles," does not do justice to what sailing is like. Magical. Christopher Cross is a very VERY underrated guitarist and song writer. The sound you're talking about are Bar Chimes. "Arthur's Theme" should be next for Chris Cross. Same vibe but a VERY different message is Bruce Hornsby & The Range, "The Way It Is"...one of my all-time favorite messages.

Cross is also an incredible guitarist, something very few give him his due credit for. Mostly because his guitar work is kind of buried by the over-production of his tracks. Listen carefully to "Ride Like The Wind." Easily one of the best guitar solos in the decade of the '70s.

You would enjoy listening to youtube music maestro Rick Beato gush over that in his video, "the greatest guitar solo you CAN'T hear". In case my comment would be blocked if I added the link, I'll try adding it in the next comment. If it's blocked, you can at least find it by that name. :-)

More than anything, this song reminds me of being a young child, reminds me of my late mother and gives me that “safe” feeling that only comes with being a child so many years ago. I would give anything to go back and experience that once again.

*Chris wrote this song about his Dad who was an abusive Alcoholic and they had a bad relationship. The song has nothing to do with 'Sailing' at all, Chris even admitted this himself. There is a video on Howard Stern about this and how he wrote this song because of it.💯%*

FINALLY! 😍😆 I love a bit of “yacht rock.” This song is a favorite of mine since childhood-those descending arpeggios he plays throughout make me think of a sailboat running quickly along the water. This song feels like what, in classical music, is called a tone poem. The music itself evokes a storyline. And Amber, that instrument you were talking about is just called chimes or bar chimes 😊

Cross also had an amazing guitar solo, buried in the background, at the end of "Ride Like The Wind". Never understood why they buried that solo - it should have been " up front & in your face".

People dont remember how powerful this song is. The feat the Billie Eilish accomplished of winning 4 general grammys in one year had only been accomplished one other time. You guessed it. Christopher Cross and this Album and song. I realize this sound is not for everyone as Billie Eilish is not for most people over 21; but it was a powerhouse and an all time great.

Christopher Cross (proud Texan) is a very underrated guitar player as well. Most people don’t realize that but guy can hold his own in any style and wish he had some songs that he did where he showed people how great he was on guitar.

His music just makes me feel like I am sailing away on a calm ocean, with a gentle breeze and warm sunlight on my face. So peaceful and relaxing. His next song that you need to react to is Best That You Can Do, the theme song from the movie Arthur.
