The great thing about this scene is the fact that the instrument at 1:00 to 1:17 is actually a 6-string Fender Bass VI. Only about 300 were made of this type, and the one in this scene is one of just two ever made in that color. That really is a rare instrument.

What might be a fun fact about the scene with Nigel and the guitars, for those who are a fan of the movie. The guitars in the scene were loaned by Norm's Rare Guitars for the movie. In actual fact the flying V which you can see in the background is Norm's own Amos Arthur Flying V - an extremely precious piece which he sold not long ago to Joe Bonamassa after owning it for 40 years. Its got a strong heritage and a lot of photographic history. Just linking some cool info I've picked up from other videos I've watched related to this.

I actually saw a subwoofer a number of years ago and the volume know went to 11! Whoever was responsible had to be a Spinal Tap fan. Seriously this movie was brilliant! I first saw it in the mid 80s as a teenager and I still love it!

What I love is the way Rob Reiner instigates in order to allow even more lines from Christopher Guest. Nigel tells him to listen, Rob says he can't hear anything Nigel tells him don't touch or point at the guitar, Rob does exactly that regardless And of course, Rob challenging Nigel 11 setup

It's not the phrase 'these go to 11' that's funny (although it is!), it's the pause just before where you can clearly see Nigel's brain trying to process that question. Christopher Guest nailed the vacuous rock star tropes so well that i notice new subtleties every time I watch the film!
