It is not concerning if a program needs admin rights to install to your computer.. just about every program needs admin rights to install unless it's installing to your appdata profile. Be concerned if it needs admin rights to run the program after it's installed.

I have one of these and it works great for me. Simple-ish customizations possible after a little digging on how it works however it just works out of the box with its pre-built screens. Cost less for me in Australia (AU$38.50). Software is a little odd but when you get used to it it works fine. Yes, don't like the Admin access need. But hey, it all works fine for me. I was a little dissapointed with the review mainly becuase you seemed to go in with a very negative attitude from the get-go. What are you smoking? Oh yeah it's a bit cheaper, because shipping from china to Au is cheaper. But it's also spyware (probably, even if it's not it's way too sketchy), doesn't show things correctly and for a bit more money you can get a better/bigger screen. It is a ripoff.

@@andreamitchell4758 Ali gets you with the shipping :) Often you will see an item for half the price of other listings, then realize that the shop charges so much for shipping that it comes out to the same price as the more expensive option. Sometimes you find a "deal" but then the shop barely has positive reviews, and a low number of sales, so you never know if what you order actually arrives. All in all for most things its better if you just pay slightly more but with a reputable seller.

It's not entirely hard to change your "Main display." As long as both your displays are in the same plane (horizontal or vertical) you can just swipe your mouse to the side and open the Display Settings on your main monitor. It should stay that way, as there is no reason it'll change suddenly without user input.

At $40, I really don't think this is a rip-off. Sure, you CAN theoretically DIY yourself a sensor panel but you can easily spend more that $40 on just the Pi screen before you've bought Aida 64, a 3D printer and CAD software. And then you've got to learn how to use the CAD software and the printer. This product removes all those barriers to entry. For someone who doesn't have all that, this product seems like a solid idea. Sure, there are improvements that could be made; larger screen, sorting out the website for downloads, getting the software certified by Microsoft and improving the refresh rate of the gauges on the display - but as a first generation product, I'd say it has gone better than ARC. Additionally, if, like me, you're running a triple monitor setup, have a VR headset and don't have an iGPU then the fact this display connects via USB rather than HDMI is also very attractive. The product works exactly as expected, it's neat and well made. I really don't think it deserves to be slammed the way you did. On top of that, imagine how much it'd cost if a company like ASUS ROG or RAZER made this? Probably closer to $400 than $40. I've just found the same one on Amazon UK for £33 that comes with a dock as well as the kickstand so I reckon I'm going to get one. If it's too small to read with it inside my case, I'll set it on my desk just behind my keyboard, similar to how the Corsair NEXUS companion is intended to be used, and use velcro ties to hold the display and keyboard cables together. In short, I respectfully disagree with your opinion on the product but I thank you for bringing it to my attention because now I can buy one. Edit: Upon doing further research myself, I've found the company's website and forum. As it turns out, they also make a 5 and 7 inch model. Edit Edit: Programmer friend of mine is looking into the software side of it out of sheer curiosity. The code is written in Python and is open source, includes a "Simulated LCD" mode so you can develop your own GUIs and also includes tools to allow you to write your own code to interact with the screen, rather than using it as a hardware monitor. Edit Edit Edit: The python version of the software is an unofficial community project

One of the most overlooked things when it comes to sensor panels is that you can use an old smartphone you have laying around as a screen for literally free. The only thing you have to work around is phones usually have way higher resolutions than your typical raspberry pi screen so finding a pre-made template that is the correct resolution can be tricky unless you have the patience to make your own.

@Tech Overkill I saw the one he did on the HDMI sensor panel, but I don't think he did one on using an old phone, which I guess could use either wifi or bluetooth, and could be placed anywhere. Most of the apps that enable this use WiFi and do everything over the network, however if you find one that has the ability to do it over usb it's better imo because then you don't have to worry about charging your phone.

I actually bought one of these little cheap screens. I wanted a sensor panel and this was a cheap and easy option (one wire). Plus, it doesn’t take up a HDMI slot on the GPU. I must say - I love it! I initially bought it to sit in my PC. However, it’s so handy to look at everything at a glance I just kept it as part of my PC building and maintenance kit. I keep it’s files on USB and just plug the screen in to a new system on the fly before stress testing. I know this isn’t the best way to do things. However, I’m just an ordinary guy, not a professional. I maintain my own computer and several others for friends and family. This little screen has been great. I have this screen. It's pretty great once you've learned to use the software. The big advantage is the size and the USB-C capability. Not having to run a cable for display and data/power seperately makes it a lot tidier. It also looks pretty good with some custom edits to the display.

It's probably something like a nextion screen. One big plus side is: Your PC does not need to drive the screen. All this does is send some data (Temp, Usage...) over USB to the screen. That uses less computing power then a mouse. Also the program needs admin rights to be able to access the cpu data and so on.

The 'admin access' request might be unavoidable for this sort of solution - Windows by default won't allow use of the sort of low-level access to sensors, etc probably needed for this to give a proper sensor readout. Common system tools for checking sensor info like HWInfo and HWMonitor both also require 'admin access' to properly access that level of granular detail.

Also depends on the send of the serial communications, if that is being sent as RS232 via a USBSerial converter (not unlikely) it can need it there too. Here's an idea for a build: steampunk-type sensor screen. You would need to get some analog voltmeters (say, 5V) and have the code turn-up the voltage by 1V for each 20-25 degrees of CPU temp. Then you can just replace the background from 0-5V to 0-100C on the voltmeter and you got yourself an oldschool-looking sensor-screen. Absolutely no idea how to do it in programming tho, but methinks it should not be too hard to pull-off!

I'm interested in setting up a Raspberry Pi sensor panel, and love what you can do with AIDA64. My problem is licensing for it. $60 for one year, and needing to renew, feels really odd if all I'm using the software for is setting up a sensor panel. Any suggestions on free or relatively inexpensive software (sure, it too can be $60, but I don't want to have to renew it) that would do the same or similar as AIDA64? The software is the only reason why I haven't committed to it yet, because there's nothing else I'd do with a 7" screen. Detailing some of those other software options (if they exist) might help some of us enthusiasts on a budget.

Yeah I agree. Buying AIDA64 is not a one time purchase, you gotta renew it every year at $60 a pop. Forget that. Comparing screen size costs to what it'll cost to maintain a subscription to AIDA64 seems trivial. JayTwoCents seems to gloss over this fact, not only in this video, but the one they made a couple of years ago as well. Who cares if a screen costs $20 more if the software to set up your sensor panel will costs $60/year!!! I'm surprised at this stage, some company has not come out with a universal sensor panel anyone can just plug in or something that's pre-built into the pc case.

I got it the next day, it rocks. plug it in, put it on your desk and you have a tiny control panel. It's too small to put on your computer, you can't read it unless you're very close so putting it on your desk like an alarm clock is a better idea. The best thing about it is that it uses a single USB cable, not an HDMI and a power cable so it doesn't take up GPU sockets (I have 3 monitors, that's important) and USB cables are thin and malleable so you can put it anywhere. BUY IT!

4:24 That's not a terrible GUI to be honest. And requiring admin is pretty common for some unsigned installs. if you are a poor dev and can't afford (or don't want to pay for) a key to sign your stuff, then you often need admin. you can totally do a user level install though in modern windows for a lot of software. it all depends on if you have to deploy a driver or some other files to a system folder or not. I made custom in house tools like this GUI for a massive company and they refused to ever pay for a key to sign my software with, so everything i put out into the company was unsigned and required admin to install lol. can't say that google drive is the best deployment method either, but it works. if you are really small scale, you should still probably pay for amazon hosting or something so it doesn't look quite so bad

There's no reason why these type of sensor panels couldn't eventually get to a point where it's just as customizable without taking up a display output. I don't even have a spare display output with my 4 monitors but if I did I can imagine what a pain in the ass it would be to have it there. It's quite often a game opens on a monitor that isn't my primary monitor, not to mention other types of programs opening or losing track of your mouse cursor... forget it. Not to mention, the fact that it could be over USB with an internal USB port (pci card) or mobo header.
