Did you try an explorer in that display case? Also if you could ask Steve Howe what was his favorite rig to tour with. Didn't you have another one of his guitars at one time. I'll bet it would be awesome to have them displayed together. If you could ask him what he thought was the biggest difference between the two guitars besides the appointments. One other thing . If you ever come across a 60-70s Drifter Stratocaster modified are not vould you at least give it a look. Back then they were cheap alternatives to Fender of course. Some people swore by them in stock condition. Some more or less turned them in to parts casters replacing some parts with upper end fender parts .

Please ask Steve if he'll collaborate with Gibson again on new signature guitars like his ES345, his L5S or like his aborted signature model from the late 70s! Also, please ask about the guitars he used during the Tormato period, this THE Les Paul was featured and the are some pics of him with an RD around that time too!

Ask Steve Howe about his use of Line 6 Variax modeling guitars. I frequently use mine when I need sounds my other guitars don’t have. I’ve seen him approach one mounted on a stand for certain parts of Yes songs. I started with the original Variax 500 and now use the Plus. I also have the long-discontinued Variax Bass and Variax Acoustic.

Which model are you using? I have a variax standard, don't use it that much to be honest.
@DavidFell

@@spiceybadger I use the Variax Standard, mostly for rehearsals with the cover band I’m in so I can bring just one guitar. I’ve used it in performance from time to time, especially if our sets includes Wichita Lineman; I’d use it to fill in for a Bass VI; however I recently bought an actual Bass VI, so will use that going forward. I also have the long-discontinued Variax Bass and Variax Acoustic, which get occasional use. Anyone wanna buy my old original Variax, later renamed Variax 500?

If I were picking questions for a Steve Howe interview, the only one I would ask relating to his equipment arsenal is if he is still using a Line 6 Variax in 2024 or if he's reverted to his earlier arsenal of multiple guitars. I would really like to know from him how he chooses between playing with plectra versus his fingers, myself being a guitar and bass player who is exclusive to his fingers.

I have a unique question: Steve, today's modern songwriting writing credits now include "Guitar Riffs" - of which you have created many. Back in the day, did you always receive partial songwriting credit for your "Riff" creation on songs? For example: Machine Messiah (Drama) has great guitar riffs, but you do not have a songwriting credit. What other songs would you think you should have a credit using today's standard?

Steve Howe's guitar. I'm with you. ...It's also beautiful. Stunning in fact. One of my Holy Grail guitars belonged to someone I knew in the early 70s, and he was a great player. He later passed away. Years later, another friend and I were instrument hunting, and on the same day at the same shop, I found a mid 70s Jazz bass, and he got my old friend's '59 Gibson Melody Maker. I first saw it on the wall, and commented on what it was. He asked to play it and did, then handed it to me. I strummed a few chords on that sweet neck. He then asked if it came with a case, and what was brought out was the case with my old friend's band name stenciled on it. It was the SAME guitar. Fast forward.... it's now mine, almost another 20 years later. I'm primarily a bass player, but I promised to teach him the regionally famous guitar riff song written on it. That's what I've always wanted to do- play THAT song on THAT guitar. Now.... the REAL Holy Grail is another friend's guitar. The '54 Junior I watched him develop into a brilliant guitarist on as we played in a (not typical) punk band in the late 70s. We'll see if I can get my hands on that one. HIS Junior, not just any one. Enough about my guitar escapades. Please DON'T sell Howe's guitar again. Play it.

The Rockonteurs (Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt) did a great podcast with Steve a few weeks ago where he talked about his musical upbringing. Definitely no classical training and no mention of any teachers either. He mentions not knowing any scales and just noodling whatever sounded good so I suspect he was completely self taught. He did mention one instruction book he had, "Dance Band Chords for the Guitar" by Eric Kershaw.

Gutsy move to check it as luggage on a plane. Even with that priority sticker the try to throw it as hard as they can. I did that with a sub $500 guitar in a Fender-style tweed case, wrapped in luggage wrap and equipped with shock-sensors... all of them triggered and the wrap had lots of rips. Also had the fancy priority sticker and lots of 'Fragile' stickers. Case and guitar survived fine, but they definitely tried. They can't force you to check it if there is overhead space. So priority boarding would get you that. Also, there's ALWAYS a closet. Just gotta know how to ask.

Congrats brother! The guitar is amazing. Getting to talk to Steve is...I have no words. I do have a little Steve story tho. Steve in the late 70s and through the 80's was my all time favorite guitarist. I loved YES and his epic work with them. Anyway, A close friend of mine who was a drummer and owned a pretty major recording studio ran into Steve. I forget where, it might have been The Power Station studio in NYC. He was friends with those guys. My buddy told Steve that I was a guitarist and how much I admired him. So, Steve pulled a promo photo off the studio wall they had up of him and he signed it for me. He said "Keep on playin Rob", and his signature. That blew me away. Thats Steve! Enjoy the experience!

"sorry sir, I don't see that claim number in the system, let's create a new claim" Over, and over, and over, and over again. Thank you Delta! Edit: Orville Gibson is buried at Morningside Cemetary in my hometown. Just a modest little rectangular ground stone with just his name and date. Also, Les Paul was a 3 year old baby when Orville passed. So they both existed in the same universe. I think an O. H. Gibson documentary is in your future.
