Mazda RX-8 is a sports car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Mazda between 2002 and 2012. It was first shown in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show. It is the successor to the RX-7 and, like its predecessors in the RX range, it is powered by a Wankel engine. The RX-8 began North American sales in the 2003 model year.
Mazda announced on August 23, 2011, that the RX-8 was to be discontinued citing the 2012 model as the last line of production. The RX-8 was removed from the European market in 2010 after the car failed to meet emissions standards.
Without the volume sales from Europe coupled with rising Yen prices, Mazda could not justify the continued sale of the RX-8 in other markets.

It might have had the weaker starter motor. At some point i beleive all rx-8's were recalled as the original starter motor was weak AF and it caused issues. They were swapped out to a higher power motor.

@@KartsAgainstHumanity I don't think mine was ever recalled to swap the superior one in, but I do know that series 2 came with something like a 14 tooth 2Kw starter motor vs the series 1 9 tooth 1Kw. Scrubbing the forums has led me to believe that the series 2 motor can all but prevent any starting issues, even with a low compression engine, based on the sheer power they put into starting the 13b. They aren't a solution for all issues that come with low compression, but it seems they can absolutely put the starting issue off at least till the engine dies at redlights/standstills.

They actually did an RX-9, it was based off of the 929/Luce Legato of '77-'81, running a 12A or a 13B. Chassis ident number is LA42 for 12A, and LA43 for 13B.

im really considering picking one of these up. there's 2 rx8s and 1 really nice boosted rx7 in my little hillbilly town in the middle of no where. seems like a car id really enjoy driving and working on since it chugs on parts. once i move out into a place with my brother where we probably will be able to afford a garage, i might go hunting for one. it's either this or a 85 porsche 944. they both have 1 thing in common: if you dont keep up on maintenence they're a nightmare. the reason im leaning more towards the porsche is because the styling though. they both have engine swapping potential but it just seems wrong to swap a rotary out of a rotary car. who knows, they're both pretty cheap cars. i could own both one of these days.

I personally would not recommend it as a first car, the engines have a lot of quirks, it’s high maintenance, and it’s expensive. If you don’t mind all that than fine. But just be aware you’re probably going to spend more than the car is worth fixing it. I don’t mind that fact because I love the car and couldn’t care less if I dump several thousand in repairs and modifications.

Because of it's Rotary engine and so most people think that it's unreliable. Although, some car enthusiasts don't think it's a bad engine, you just need to be committed to it and need to do a lot of things keep it running smoothly. So if you want one, do your research on it, see if you can handle some of the con's that come along with it. Everyone has their opinions on it, don't let that spoil your parade you do what you want, some people love Rotary engines and others hate it. (Also a lot of people dislike it bc they think the RX8 is trash compared to the RX7 FD)

A majority of people who own regular piston engines don't really do the same care and kind of get lazy with it vs the people who know how to take care of their rotary engines. That's a 20b with a Secondary Bridgeport to give it that signature rough idle. A lot of a port timing overlap.

It’s really late but if you can get the car to have a lighter rotational mass I.e. pulleys, and flywheel the cars computer tries to balance the revs but it bounces between in a way giving you that signature brap brap at idle increase in horse power also helps bounce it up higher after it goes below idle rev if you were trying to stay with the renisis 13b
