Id like to think I'm not biased....mostly. I have shotguns from mossberg, benelli, and Beretta. If I had to compare them to cars I'd say... My beretta is like a fast sports car. Luxurious, expensive, handles exceptionally well, and tends to draw attention at the range. It has a strong contrast of snow patterns with black furniture though it sticks out like a sore thumb in swamps 🤷♀️ The mossberg is more like a muscle car. Its got a mean look, thicc, handles under pressure :D, easy to work on, and can be used as a melee weapon...*insert poor mustang joke here* The benelli is more like an armored truck than anything. It has presence, is incredibly rugged, is heavy, could be used to smash into a subway at 1am for sandwiches, and is just a blast to bring out. For the money though? Mossberg and Browning are solid choices 👌

A little story: as a squad point man in Afghanistan back in the day I carried a Mossberg 500. This is well over a decade ago. Southern Afghanistan is all dust and dirt and sand. It gets in EVERYWHERE. The 500 would. Not. Jam. Would fucking not. Ever. Our assaultmen carried the Benelli M-1014/M4. Those jammed every time you looked at them funny. You couldn't possibly keep them clean enough for proper, reliable cycling. Eventually they were all stored and shipped back. The Mossberg ran like a raped ape no matter what. I'd absolutely trust my life to it, any day.

I really only had the occasional hick up from not cleaning it over the course of a year where I had exclusively run 1,000+ rounds of winchester low brass bird shot, the hicks up being the bolt wouldn't lock to the back on the last round. After cleaning, it is back to running 100%, and is my favorite shotgun I own for the last 4-5 years.

@jacobmarley49072 жыл бұрын
Great video TFB! The Mossberg is one of my favorite guns. For those that already have a 930, SBE Precision and OR3Gun has been making parts for 930 upgrades for some time. SBE precision produces a fluted stainless steel gas piston with integral milled internal gas rings (still need the external gas ring. OR3Gun makes the mag tube spacer that in conjunction with the SBE piston makes the gas system on the 930 self cleaning (2,000 rounds est.). Unfortunately there is no stock 18 1/2" barrel with choke tubes available from Mossberg for the 930 so I had to buy an 18 1/2" security barrel from Mossberg and send it to Carlson's Choke Tubes and have it threaded for Remchoke extended choke tubes. OK so now the barrel is 19" with the choke tube. There are other refinements for the 930 however if you don't already have a 930, buy the 940. The cost of all the mods for the 930 will run about the same price as a new 940 so buy the new one unless like me you already have a 930.
@VincitOmniaVeritas72 жыл бұрын
The improvements Mossberg did are suspiciously similar to OR3GUN replacement parts for the 930/940. I have the original 930 JM Pro and the gas system requires cleaning after every 200 rounds or it will start to fail. When you are training for competition or during a course, 200 rounds is not that much.
@aggrodkreg43212 жыл бұрын
"Suspiciously" my ass. They swapped out all the plastic parts the 930 originally had with OR3GUN clones. Add on top of that the fact that they swapped the original gas piston with an SBE Precision clone, too.

Don’t forget to check the recoil spring in the stock for burrs. Those little burrs at both ends need to be smoothed over so they don’t gouge the tube and impair function. That is AWESOME that Mossberg finally released what the 930 Tactical Owners have been asking for. I have been the owner of a Mossberg 930 SPX Blackwater since 2014 and it started off well but living in Central Florida I found out VERY QUICKLY the SHORT Comings of the 930 System in HIGH HUMIDITY or WET Environment the GAS PISTON SPACER gets Humidity build between it and the Magazine Tube and makes DRAGS the ACTION DOWN. After doing some internet research I found that OR3GUN made a GPS unit that had holes to allow the water and humidity to escape and keep the action going. I also added the JM 930/935 Pro Series Boron Nitride along with some other receiver parts for the Action in Nickle Boron and the Mesa Tactical Urbino Stock. The Upgrades that I choose on my Mossberg 930 Blackwater made it 100% Reliable no matter what the weather or humidity. I also added the Bobcat handguard which was way too heavy and did not LOCKUP properly but I see that Mossberg FIXED the ISSUE with the Handguard in the 940. I have been looking for a Black Beretta 1301 so I can turn it into a ALL OUT Tactical Shotgun to be added to my Weapons Locker but I have not been able to get one from my Distributors since they have been in Allocation because they are still trying to fill the orders from 2021. I think the 940 Tactical will be in my Weapon Locker before the Beretta. Seeing the 940 system and knowing the 930 short coming I know that 940 will be a WINNER because the MAJOR ISSUES of the 930 are have been ADRESSED and OVERCOMED!

The new gas system looks really appealing as well, though I have yet to experience problems with my existing "old" gas system. Best thing about these Mossberg guns is they will cycle all the cheap-ass 7-1/2 shot Walmart shotgun ammo favored by 3-gun shooters. Hey James, there's your "poverty" reference! In comparison to the FN, this willingness to just plain cycle 12ga ammo results in a greatly reduced cost and hassle of ownership. As for reliability and cleaning...I definitely do not clean my guns after every range visit. No way. I like to shoot, not clean guns. Eventually, a gun cleaning is warranted, and it will be done. So, I don't know how many rounds between cleanings I have averaged with my 930 JM. I have yet to run it so dirty as to induce malfunctions. And I like to shoot. If you're looking for a tactical or competition SG, look no further. But don't forget to check out JR's Euro bourgeois offerings. They're fine guns as well. Money is no object. p.s. JR, your boy Ryan would be DQ'd at every match or practice session I've ever run or participated in. He must learn to take his finger out of that trigger guard when reloading. That is simply not safe gun handling.

Great video James ... Got the JM 930 back in the day when it was $560.00 for my truck carry/home defence gun ... It was rough and needed some internal smoothing work and a few boxes of shells run through it ... It's been a very reliable fast shooting shotgun ever sense .... Love my JM 930 ... Thanks !

This video cost me $2,300 yesterday afternoon. Invested in two of them ... may have to sell my M4 to pay for them. This video was about as comprehensive and complete as anyone could ask-for ... it just took awhile for my LGS to start getting these things. Plus my Thunder Chicken arrived yesterday, which I paid-for literally 360 days ago (arrrgggghhhhh finally) so it was a good day at my LGS yesterday. The torture test sold me .... well done men. ETA: Wait a second, did James say "we've got say-butts?" Oh sheeesh I thought we were going to get-through an entire video without him saying or doing something ghey. Just wasn't in the cards I guess. It's "say-beaus" James ... we've got sabots. Say-beaus .... that 3½ round, wow! That should be enough for everyone to rush-out and invest in one right now.

I have the JM 930 Pro. I love it! I paid around 700 for it. The only problem is if you screw up and hit the chamber button you end up with shells under the shell riser. Thus Jammed. 1st to correct this is don't hit the button while loaded. 2nd keep a thin pocket knife on you so you can slide between the riser and frame to relock the shells back into place.

I just picked up a Beretta 1301 in January based on your Thunder Ranch review. Now I wish I had waited!!! I did get a good deal on the upgraded version that came with the tube extension and tube clamp/ QD sling attachment by Beretta. I've held off on the optic, mostly because of cost and that the ardus low profile mount was out of stock last time I checked.

The review was excellent and very informative. But I love my Mossberg 930 SP Tactical; it's a great platform and, I'm sure, the 940 will shine. I, of course, upgraded the sh&t out of my 930, similar to what has become standard on the 940, with OR3GUN upgrades, SBE Piston, and Burris FastFire 3 red dot. People are going to love this shotgun, but I'm not ready to buy what I , essentially, already have. Thank you for reminding me that I have to go do my yearly cleaning.

Between these companies I want to say my favorite guns are the 1301 comp pro in that blue finish and the Beneli M2 speed in that deep red. Both are hard to find and one isn't even in the US. As for you 930 owners who don't know check out the Or3gun package for the 930jm. The internals get replaced making the 930 more on par with the 940. Just throwing that out there for anyone struggling with reliability issues or want to clean less. According to the manual you shouldn't use slugs but in return it handles 1000fps shells much easier. Supposedly anyway....Im not a gun expert :D

I remember back in the day, I was the guy who always compared the Mossberg shotguns to the Remington's. In my book, the 870 was king. Fast forward 2 decades and here Remington turned to shit, QC tanked and Mossberg became the big player in American made shotguns. Mossberg really has kept true to their goals and to their customers. Glad they did, because we need good, quality American made shotguns.
@soonerfrac46112 жыл бұрын
Roles are beginning to reverse, lots of people talking about QC issues with pump Missy’s right now. Biggest thing I’ve heard have been the bolt lug sheering off, some issues with the lift gate, and I wanna say trigger issues but can’t remember. Remington got ran into the ground because management was replaced with non gun people. Hopefully Mossberg can correct this quickly.
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz2 жыл бұрын
The 870 only had one advantage of the 500, which was the magazine tube system. Of course, Mossberg corrected their mistake with the 590.
@toddk13772 жыл бұрын
@@soonerfrac4611 I've heard some similar things from people, but every gun manufacturer at some point has put out some bad products here and there. How fast they fix it is what sets them apart. Remington was driven into the ground for sure, but if I had the choice, I'd take an old 870 anyway over any Mossberg. I've never owned or shot, or seen anyone with an old 870 have failures. Mossbergs, yes. Two times, a lift gate for bent somehow and then a firing pin spring broke, both were fairly new at the time.

I love your videos, while I will never own an auto shotgun, I do love watching the videos. The reason I won't own an auto is because of your videos, you see I am on a fixed income of less than $1000 a month and after bills, very little is left. Thankfully I own my home so that;s a plus. I do however because of you own two Maverick 88's, I got both for $400 out the door at my local shop. Now some will say that I can get a cheap auto for that, but as you have shown me and others, cheap auto's are well cheap. I may be poor and can't afford much but thankfully Mossberg has reliability in a inexpensive package. Keep the videos coming, love the burn downs. To all of you, be careful, take care and God Bless.

@jason2009123 ай бұрын
Cleaning a gun isn't bad for it. But snipers tend to ignore cleaning until 200 rounds minimum because it will mess with the accuracy if you clean it hard. They probably shoot some rounds through the rifle bores after cleaning just to make sure it has some copper fouling or whatnot to bring back some accuracy

Oh I bought one just as soon as I could find one. My 930 JM PRO is a beast. I’ve ran it 1100 rounds before cleaning and it never missed a beat. Not one! I’d put any of them up against any auto shotgun made plus they are made right here in America!

Finally got one. Ordered the Mesa Tactical stock and hated the thickness of the grip, so I grabbed the hacksaw and chopped down the stock buffer tube and spring, drilled and ground an Ergo AR grip/buffer tube, drilled out an AR buffer tube and assembled it all using an adjustable angle grip. I then created one of my SCA style thrusting tips, using suede and Ensolite on a UTG buttstock to create a 1" thick buttpad. ... some day I might get to take it out to test.

Dang. Now I need a 940. I have a Mossberg that began life as a 930. It has a synthetic stock. I added tube extension for 9 rounds. A gunsmith chopped the vented rib barrel just in front of the mag tube and reinstalled the front bead and rethredded for choke tubes. Some serious polishing of the mag tube and action and it was ready to go. It runs great but you do have to clean it.

I really like the 940 Pro Tactical, but... the plastic barrel clamp ... not so much. For a sling option, I added a metal barrel clamp wiith a sling mount, in addition to using the plastic barrel clamp for a possible gunlight. (I live in Alaska, and want to carry this as big critter protection, in addition to home protection.) Yes, I do have to remove both barrel attachments in front of the foregrip to fully break-down the shotgun. That's the "negative". The trigger on the 940 Pro Tactical was impressive for me... no trigger upgrade needed in any way. The 940 Pro Tactical has performed flawlessly so far. I would buy it again. IMO it's a great alternative to buying & upgrading a Benelli M4. (Not saying that the M4 isn't great -- I'd still say the Benelli M4 is the Gold Standard for tactical shotguns. But it's way too expensive to modify into an optimum configuration in the U.S..) The Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical provides an excellent alternative.

Call it what you will. I was out shooting years ago with the 88 and had the stupid idea to try to hit a man size steel target at 87 yards away in the head while standing. I loaded, quickly shouldered and fired. I was shooting a 300 gr. Hornady slug. I knew I missed it! I had to! The target didn’t move. As I procrastinatedley walked up to the target. And to my dismay saw a quarter size hole where the eyeball should of been. I call it dumb luck! You call it what you want to. Smooth barrel, 18.25” long, no prep, just shoot! As I said. Call it what you will. I know what it can do! Keep your expensive toys. I’m happy with mine.
