I think the concept of the devil is simply going against the commands of God or God's instructions. Satan is considered to be the devil or the chariot of evil because he is the first one to defy God. Anything that does not follow the instructions of God or commands is thus evil or considered to be wrong because you have disobeyed the command of the creator; you have acted outside the scope of his instructions. Then it is safe to say that Satan is the advancement of defying or going against God's instructions. Since God is good and his instructions are for the greater good of human beings, so Satan is against this and hence we say he is evil.
