Pleaaaase stop using burned in forced letterboxing. Just edit and output in the aspect ratio that you want your image to be, without any built-in black bars. Now I'm watching a full black frame around the video; bars left, top, right, and bottom, as if the video is just too small for KZbin. I'd prefer if you just output 16:9 videos by the way. It's a tech video, not a Sergio Leone movie. But if you insist on the wide aspect ratio, DON'T bake in the bars, thank you.

SD cards aren't going anywhere, they're used by all DSLR/mirrorless cameras so are they're vital for photographers, and even the latest cameras by Sony have dual full-size SD, no microSD or anything else in sight. If we were going to think ahead to the world where just about everything is USB-C, my laptop would need USB-C ports, a headphone jack and a full-size SD card slot. That would be perfect.

Aditya As a Dell XPS 13 (2015) owner I was so annoyed when the new XPS 13 came out with only a microSD slot. It's meant to be a pro laptop, but manufacturers seem to be confusing "pro" with the devices being status symbols or fashion pieces where form goes over function. Professional means professional, whether that's photo/video, 3D modelling, audio, engineering etc. Not "professional video watcher that just needs to open Word sometimes".

I've purchased the Saitechi USB V2 hub on a recommendation from you guys - It sure is a great USB C dock! And suprisingly small one too. I like the aluminum finish which gives it that premium feeling. Though it costs me 800 DKK (about 130 Dollars), it's still cheaper and smaller than most of the docks from the laptop manufactors. I've needed a USB dock with a lot of ports since my Lenovo X1 Gen 3 tablet only has USB C Thunderbolt ports, and i needed the Ethernet and 3x USB A ports for my gamestreaming with keyboard, mouse and a gaming headset. Great video, thanks Verge!

For the most part, getting the right cables will eliminate the need of a HUB. But a HUB is still useful for expanding the number of total ports, and for improvising. And in some cases, like a Ethernet and HDMI, the right cable doesn’t exist, so then it’s either dongle or HUB. Satechi has another irritating design flaw in v1. The MicroSD slot swallows the whole MicroSD card completely. You’ll need long nails to get it in and out of the port. I hear they’ve since updated the design in v2.

"Let's face it. USB-C is a nightmare". LOL what??? Isn't having at least 8 separate connectors for video (HDMI, miniHDMI, microHDMI, Displayport, mini Displayport, DVI, Dual-link DVI, VGA), at least 12 different connectors for data transfer (USB-A, USB-B, USB micro B, USB C, mini USB, micro USB, Thunderbolt 1/2, Thunderbolt 3, 4-pin FW400, 6-pin FW 400, FW 800, Ethernet) and literally an innumerable amount of proprietary charging connectors for laptops the TRUE nightmare??? There are way more than that, even, but that's just off the top of my head. USB-C/TB3 can literally replace/provide the functionality of ALL of those in one universal port. That sounds like the solution, not the nightmare my friends.

When you plugin VGA you can he sure that it will work, when you plugin ethernet you can be sure that the lan will work, but with usb type c it is like dvi or hdmi - you never can be sure what is hiding behind the interface. It might charge your device, or it can kill it, it can have deliver the video or it might not. I had type-c on my laptop that was simple usb 3.0 with type c port, almost useless. Now i have usb type c which can be used to connect a dongle with hdmi and 2 usbs and it is nice to plug all stuff when brining laptop home in 1 action. But - using the external gpu is limited as it has only 2 pcie lanes. And it is annoying that you need to learn so much because of a single interface
@SweBeach20235 жыл бұрын
You also have to remember what you're talking about is more than 30 years of computer technology evolving, in 2045 I'm sure USB-C will be in the same situation, having lost its position to faster and more modern interfaces. With that said, the normal type A USB port have proven remarkably resistant to change, now being 22 years old and still being able deal with most requirements. So maybe USB C will be for the foreseeable be "The one connector to rule them all"
@0LoneTech5 жыл бұрын
USB C can offer the functionality of most of those... but it's a bloody mess guessing which it actually does for a given device or port. For instance, my laptop can't charge through that Apple HDMI adaptor this video rightly says to avoid.

We have to admit that the USB-SIG dropped the ball by not making the full standard mandatory to use any of it. Maybe allow different power tolerances for different classes of devices, but only one level per device class - I don't think a phone needs to charge at 20V. And Intel dropped the ball by allowing manufacturers to label ports USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 instead of simply Thunderbolt 3.

The Vava USB-C Hub 9-in-1 is almost exactly the save as the Satechi (same ports, same port placement, similar (same?) capabilities, very similar design) for $20 less at the time of posting. It has good reviews on Amazon, and while I haven’t used it much, I’ve been impressed so far. There’s two notable downsides; the ethernet port has a moveable part that could conceivably break with a little too much force or just with a lot of wear and tear, so it may not be ideal for people who plan to use that really frequently; and it doesn’t seem to be able to draw enough power from my Macbook Air to power three USB devices at once without also being plugged in via the passthrough power supply (not sure if other hubs have similar issues on that count). Not dealbreakers, but worth keeping in mind.

now im not a big techie but as the average consumer I find it ironic that electronics are going backwards instead of forwards these days giving us laptops with no ports and aux less cell phones where you have to have another plug just to plug in. It's ridiculous. Brands are trying to be bigger and better but in reality they're just unsure of what to do with everything thats already been done so they go backwards with their products as a easy way to say it's new (but not improved you aint fooling no one with tht) cuz its easy and makes you spend even more money paying extra for things you had already included in your old ones. I'm sure theyre making a pretty penny forcing the consumers to have to spend a crazy amount of money only to realize you just spent all this money for the new thing to still have to use your old tech bc you dont have all the capabilities the old one has!! Then you have to drop even more money to be able to have those things on your old goods. Just makes no sense to me. The amount of times ive had to buy a connector aux cord bc it broke is ridiculous or all the times you lose it or forget to bring it with you so you're beat for music. I really hate electronics from now if you cant tell. Theyre just so stupid and backwards! I regret buying a new mac i wish i had gotten a older model
