I recently got back into drawing and I've gotta say I wish my art instructors were as concise as you are describing the shapes as letters in a word. I used to just use a bunch of references and get hung up over its main form that I failed to take it apart into simple shapes. I've shared this video with other friends of mine learning to draw so I thank you for this and hopefully in a year I'll be smashing that paper into oblivion.

Hi, brokendraw! This is possibly the best drawing instructional video ever created. Explaining this difficult concept on the fly is incredible. Due to the relatively live nature, there was one extremely important point that was accidentally misspoken. @2:22 in regards to, "The basic forms are what ALPHABETS are to language." Instead this makes more sense stating, "The basic forms are what LETTERS are to language." Each form is a single letter. Each form is not equal to an entire 26 letter alphabet. When placing forms (letters) together you create objects (words). When placing alphabets together this would be crazy since that would be like combining English plus Finnish plus Japanese etc. and be too confusing. Combining single LETTERS of the same alphabet makes more sense. This was a considerable undertaking, thank you for this masterpiece.
@brokendraw2 күн бұрын
Aw Thank you so much. Im so glad you found it helpful. I am finding out I tend to make a lot of grammatical (grammatic?!) errors as I speak hahah. If your drawings feel flat try to add more face and planes to it also play with the pose if it is a character don't be afraid to break what you draw go for extreme abstractions the silhouette changing first and secondary shapes. Especially secondary details are key when you are are designing concepts and such. If something looks boring aggressively try 1- Big Medium Small 2 - Curve it I mean make it dynamic if it is a pose exaggerate if flat looking. 3 - Apply Asymmetry for example make the hip left turn the head right use counter 45 degree relationships this helps you to balance the stance of a character also. 4- Use solid references will boost your creativity much and will make you draw beyond your level a bit more. 5- If too confused, simplify and erase the confused tertiary details because none of them matters if your first and secondary shapes are not feeling dynamic or fun to look at. I was a guy who drew gritty realistic while studying masters but I was still on my "student phase" because I would always trip and fall while trying the same realism from imagination. And then after I have learned abstraction and simplifying my "art from imagination style" it made me create my own art style I have used the artists I love studied their abstraction tactics. Now I am developing even further on my new style soon to share with people. It is like comic art style not too simplified not too gritty realistic semi realistic line art with vibrant colors.

The last time I checked your channel was 3 months ago, and now I can really see all the effort you’ve put into your content. By the way, your explanations are super clear, easy to understand, and well-organized. Quick question: are you planning to create a tutorial course? If not, can you share some free or affordable resources that helped you learn to draw? I’ve been away from drawing for 3 years, and honestly, my skills are below zero now-I’ve forgotten all the basics and everything. (:: Anyway, your artwork is amazing, keep going! Your explanations are so enjoyable, don’t stop!

It's available right now and covers everything you need to know about the basics to draw from imagination in 2 months. But on this channel I am continuing to make high value, educational information easy and free! As for free resources: The etherington brothers have a "how to think when you draw" series of over 600 concepts absolutely free online. It's a godsend of an encyclopedia for artists. Along with that, Ive enjoyed Peter Hans Livestreams as well as BAM animations YT channel that covers everything needed to learn animation related skills. Hope this helps! Thanks again.
