Who gives a flying fuck whether it's "emo" or not, "emo" is a subjective term anyway. It's a beautiful song, and the raw emotion (as in feelings, think the kindergarten definition you were once taught) conveyed in his lyrics and delivery is what makes Bright Eyes unique.

I agree. It has been turned into an unwanted style, by bands like hawthorne heights, scene kids who think they are emo if they dye their hair black, wear heavy make up and pretend to hate themselves. But original emo back in the day was nothing like that.

well I see emo as a style, not just meaning emotional. because there is loads of emotional music, music is crap without emotion. And there is nothing wrong with emo, but its just not emo. its Folk, listen to the harmonies and stuff on stongs like Land Loacked Blues, totally folk style. But his music is amazing either way.

I wouldn't go that far. He is very talented, and once the hipster/emo hubbub dies down a bit, more people will take the time to hear his music and realize this. But - Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) is superior to Mr. Oberst - don't believe me? Go listen to the Trapeze Swinger. Read the lyrics. Realize it contains some of the most beautiful words of all time. Cry.
