@@josecanal7556 yeah It's what I liked about season one. They knew there were other similar anime and similar tropes and deliberately did things differently. The good kind of subversion. Junpei was in the opening credits and it's made to make the audience think he's the trope of initial enemy turned ally/friend/team member. Nope, he got Mahito-ed. Naruto-Kurama and Itadori-Sukuna parellel is easy to draw upon. But the huge difference is Sukuna does above and beyond to antagonize Itadori and practically everyone when he comes out. Kurama "the scary demon... (retconned into tailedbeast and then later justified why Kurama was the tame one) ... was always just a power up (until it became friends). Whenever Kurama manifested, there was always a secret emergency seal inside Naruto, or someone can seal it. Sukuna went out swinging day one and consistently did damage that had major consequences. Yuji "died" and was away for a while. When he called on Sukuna for a power up, he got laughed at and mocked. No neee to explain what happened in this episode. Sukuna is disaster incarnate. Kurama got retconned to just a misunderstood softie, but even when he was just a demon, he was still just a power up

I think you guys misunderstood why the OP song played. It’s not just as simple as, “oh how cute, they played the song at the end.” If you actually bother to translate the lyrics, it’s basically describing EVERYTHING Sukuna did after he woke up. So the song isn’t undercutting Yuji. It’s TAUNTING him. It’s tormenting him. It’s Sukuna singing, “Look at the all the fun we just had. "can Inumaki tell Sukuna to stop" It's a nice idea haha, but the mechanic for that is it's dependent on the power gap between Inumaki and his target, using his cursed speech on HANAMI was enough to get him coughing up blood and passing out after a couple of uses, if he tried to use it on Sukuna, his heart would probably just explode.

@@DNephilim probably not Hanami just shrugged it off the first few times. which would make even an attempt on Sukuna lethal to potentially zero effect, and I think it probably had a reduced effect compared to what he wanted even when it did work if he's shouted "Blast Away" full force at a normal cursed spirit he'd probably blast them to the sun. Hanami was just knocked a few dozen metres back. he probably couldn't give Sukuna a nosebleed at the cost of his life.

No spoilers this is just clarification for the Subtitles this episode. Makora = Mahoraga the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Malevolent Kitchen = Malevolent Shrine Dissect = Dismantle Fillet = Cleave It seems like they just used the literal Japanese translations for this episode and not the official translations provided by the manga. Makora might be intentional though the Kanji when it was revealed in chapter 117 the same chapter today's episode adapted translated to Makora but the manga called it Mahoraga instead which is the sanskrit translation. So the Anime might be keeping Makora to keep it accurate to the japanese translation from now on instead of the sanskrit translation. Malevolant Kitchen is actually the proper translation based off of the kanji that is used in the manga. The mizushi-dokoro (御厨子所, mizushi-dokoro?) is an archaic word referring to a section of the Emperor's residential compound in the Imperial Palace, where food from the kitchen compound, meant for the Emperor's meals, would be brought for more advanced stages of preparation. The second character zu/kuriya (厨, zu/kuriya?) means "kitchen". But in episode 4 of Season 1 and chapter 8 of the Manga Sukuna's domain is called Malevolent Shrine not Malevolent Kitchen so that's definitely not supposed to be in the episode but Sukuna was definitely cooking this episode 🔥

cool reaction i like the discussion, although i think the intro song in the end was spot on because it highlights the concept of the “shibuya incident” i think people hear the song and think its a happy and hype but in reality if you look up lyrics and watch the music video of the song, it would probably make more sense to why they chose to play it at the end with yuji. in my opinion.

One thing to note - Sukuna's domain has an escape route naturally, that kind of domain is a special one and is not related to the pact between Yuji and Sukuna, it comes into play a lot later. The binding vow providing extended range exists because domains are meant to have barriers and since Malevolent Shrine doesn't have one, the longer range compensates for it.

It's not all of Shibuya. Shibuya is about 15.11km², so if it was circular in shape that would be a radius of of ~4km. Sukuna's radius is 200m (0.2km) or about 640 ft, 140m is about 460ft. So the radius around him is about 460ft. So a football field + 100 yards in a heavily populated city is still a lot of people...but that is just the hole. There's other building standing with slices in them so it wasnt only the hole the people got killed in, only his domain

I didn't even notice this but we got an answer to a question from season 1 in this ep. Remember how Mahito was speculating about Sukuna not being able to heal others with his reversed cursed technique? I'm pretty sure we saw Sukuna use it on Megumi when the fight hadn't started.

Sukuna is able to heal other with reversal, its just he cant heal idle transfiguration because its not actually damaged, Mahito changes the shape of the soul but he’s not harming it, if you try to heal a body part effected by idle transfiguration it will simply regrow disfigured as mahito left it.

The thing about the OP insert towards the end is the lyrics for the song reference Yuji's breakdown (and it unfortunately only work if you know Japanese, or look up the lyrics).

Yuji is one of a kind that he somehow has control over being Sukuna's vessel. Imagine if they executed Yuji in the beginning, only eliminating 1 finger- and then the 15-finger Sukuna is somewhere else in Japan with no one to control him. Or if his new vessel after Yuji is an evil person. Dude we probably wouldn't be talking about just Shibuya by then. And I didn't mind the intro "SPECIALZ" playing there at the end. Might have been better to let it sit there, yes. But I don't think this was bad. Because it might be a bop but it's not a happy song. It actually has a dark feel to it. A bit of descending into madness vibe. Even more so if you read the lyrics. This song has lines like: "Shall we dance at the border of death?" "Let it all make a mess." "Let’s feast on the emptiness." I thought it fits pretty well. Even the "You are my special. We're special." can be interpreted in a way that fits Sukuna and Yuji. This isn't like HxH playing that happy adventure track right after Meruem and Komugi died.

A few things I want to clear up. 19:55 Mahoraga is not dead. Had Sukuna killed Mahoraga after he was tamed, then Mahoraga would be gone for good. HOWEVER, it was stated in season one that when a shikigami dies, its abilities get transferred to another shikigami within the Ten Shadows technique. Also, undercutting Yuji's pain by playing the opening was intentional. The opening theme for this arc was written specifically for the villains. Having such an upbeat song playing whilst Yuji is going through emotional turmoil symbolizes Sukuna's thoughts after Yuji took back control. "Hey brat, I can see your upset cause people died but I don't care. I used YOUR body to murder thousands and had a damn good time doing it so sit there and cry about it" That's probably what he's thinking. Finally, about Sukuna's Domain: Malevolent Shrine (not malevolent kitchen lol) has a binding vow. It has an open barrier. Not having a barrier means people could THEORETICALLY escape (the chances of anyone who isn't faster than Toji...even that's a stretch is unlikely). In exchange for that disadvantage, Malevolent Shrine's effective range is increased to 200 meters.

He is called Makora because that's what it's called in Japanese. The manga translation decided to go with the Sanskrit word which is Mahoraga but in Japanese it's written as Makora. As for Malovelent Kitchen, that's the actual translation of the word 厨子 (zushi). Or to put it more accurately that's the old translation. Originally it was used to refer to a pantry or a kitchen. Nowadays it's used to refer to a shrine or more accurately a cabinet where you keep holy relics. It's kind of like the English word 'meat'. Originally meat was used to refer to all food items but now it's used to refer to just flesh of animals.
