As a gay black teen, I feel this so much. I go to my black people, but they don't mess with me because I'm gay and a lightskin. Alright. Cool. I go to my gay people, but they also don't like me because I don't fit their beauty standards (let's not act like most of the gay community is into white men with raging abs or a really feminine twink that's also white). And so, then I go to women, because men suck. But, of course, they ALSO don't like me because they think I'm trying to compete with them or something like that. Or they try to be that "omg, yass queen, do a death drop" type of girl. I hate that so much. I have so many stereotypes that I legit can't fit in anywhere. And my gay friends are so toxic it's unbeleiveable. I try to go to many different groups of people, but they have already made up their minds about the type of person I am based off of other gay people. The amount of hate that circulates just because of someone's identity is absolutely insane to me, and I just hope I can get to the point you are right now, because I don't want to admit it, but I am insecure and also seek validation. But it is what it is at the end of the day.

I felt the part about “not feeling black enough” SOOO hard. I’m mixed and anyone that’s black says I’m “whitewashed” and because of that I mostly have white friends. But then whenever I hang out with them I feel like a token black girl. I’m still working on my identity, but thank you for making this video because it made me feel seen, Larray ❤

Larray, I know you won’t see this however you taught me how to be confident and not give a fuck! Starting in a new environment I was scared and felt judged but watching this video reminded me of my old self when was so happy when I didn’t give a fuck! Thank you for everything Larray!

I understand you so well, I am a curly head too and I used to straighten it chemically for yearssss. As a young woman having curly hair and being a Latina meant having "bad hair" now I Love my hair and my texture, my volume when I put in in a bonnet because it's mine and I take care of it. You are doing your thing, embrace yourself and ignore them because at the end nothing matters, just be happy. There are ups and downs but that's ok, don't let people make you feel like you are falling down, we always are we just have to learn to fly sometimes. That's how I see it.

I'm not black but I do have very curly hair and I'm half Indo-Carribean and half white and my whole life people have made fun of my hair calling it a rat nest and a explosion, classmates have sworn and verbal assaulted me because of my hair and my ethnicity especially since I am still living in a very white area. Even in grade 11 I'm still dealing with problems and I know I won't ever feel fully accepted but it's nice to hear people be this open about their struggles❤

when I was younger my natural hair (curly and afro like) was usually what I was made fun of, mostly being called a “bush” whenever I was able to straighten my hair, I would, and I would feel so happy. I got many compliments for having my hair straightened, but not so much with my curly natural hair. I learned to love my hair, and I hope people learn to love their hair. I’m really sorry for how people be dragging you, trust me you’re not ugly 😭. people need to learn to stop being so hurtful just because of someone’s HAIR.

Currently dealing with this right now. Growing up, I was always the fly in the milk. Went to an all white school, lived in a predominantly white neighborhood. Teachers, staff, and students always made it their hobby to remind me how different I was from them.. Left me with so much self-hatred..
