Agreed. As an owner of Q2 since last year I can only say that the camera is A joy to use. And now with Firmware update it is even better. Please do another review and show us how you use the camera that work for your creativity.

My dear SnapChick, it's as though, beginning in March 2020 and across every walk of life, we've begun shedding weight, reflecting on what's important and are finding deeper joy in our lives. Last fall, all I took was my Leica Q2 to a school reunion in the Catskills. Virtually weightless, I can't describe how joyful it was to both capture and share the stunningly beautiful photographs with everyone. I love the personal reflections you've shared with us here. Thank you.

Congratulstions! I’ve been a Q fan since it was introduced, and when Leica introduced the Q2 I immediately purchased one, and I’ve used it in all my travels around the world told over the last year - so much so that my Leica Ms with an extensive collection of lenses are now backup bodies!

I bought a Fuji X100F in 2017 and the first time I put it to good use was on a trip to Amsterdam. I really got into street photography after that. Since then I have purchased a Sony A7iii and a Ricoh GRiii. Although the A7iii is primarily my camera for doing portrait shoots, I do occasionally use it for street photography too. I bought the Ricoh GRiii after seeing a KZbinr rave about it. It is a camera I have in a pocket most of the time even if It is not the primary camera I am using that day. I love the Fuji X100F and some of my best photos have been taken with it. I purchased the Fuji X100V last week and I’m glad I did as it is a serious upgrade from the 100F. The Fuji X100 series is what I like to call the poor mans Leica. I don’t see being able to afford any Leica probably ever. The Fuji X100F and now 100V inspires me to get out and shoot. It is compact and produces great images.

I understand the feelings that lead to the Leica Q2. I shoot with Nikons for business, have for 50 years. Then I got a Leica M-P and then an M9. Then I got my hands on a Leica Q when it first came out. I loved it. I could concentrate on the photo and quit worrying about a lot of other things. I was considering the Leica M10 Monochrom, but just last week I realized my Q was almost perfect. Then I looked at the specs on the Q2 and realized it IS the perfect camera for my rambles and street photos. Mine is being delivered today. I haven't been this excited about a camera for awhile!

Truthfully the main reason I switched to mirror less was to be able to use old vintage lenses. Not every day, but there is something magical about using 50 year old glass on a digital body.

Totally get it. Leica gives you a connection with your photography that no other manufacturer can provide. I have owned a Leica Q2 but couldn't justify it as my "extravagant" walkabout camera so I sold it, maybe one day I will buy another, I have one eye on the Fuji x100V but I know it will never give me that "je ne saiscquoi" I am sure you will enjoy he pleasure that a Leica brings and gives you a different photographic experience.

Welcome to the Q2 club. The Q2 is the last camera I'll ever need, I'm more creative, more motivated to go and shoot (after an entire life of shooting), and less weighed down on trips. MIst have accessories, grip (got the Leica brand but others may be better since they offer access to battery and sd card compartment without having to disassemble) thumb grip (would love to see one of this that includes a fash connector pass-thru) vented hood and lens cap (the beautiful cup that Leica includes will fall ad eventually get lost).

Everyone thinks the M6 is the ultimate photographers tool back in the 80s. When I started out in photography in the 70s, I never thought my evolution in photography would ever enable me to,dabble with the infamous Leica brand cameras. There was and still is a dynamic reputation and unique relationship a photographer has with thenLeica brand. I always believed that the price and mystique of any Leica camera was for the professionals. But like all serious photographers, their evolution in photography will bring them to the Leica brand. You learn so much with SLRs that you want to improve your photography and save and endeavor yourself to eventually get your hands on a Leica, I did with the classic M6 with 40mm. I experienced the Leica quality image but alas, still evolved with the digital industrial revolution.working with DSLRs for 15 years, with Nikons D750-D850, I saw myself seeking further experiences and going back the finding that Leica image digitally. I left the world of DSLRs and jumped back into the Leica pool, starting with the Leica Vario-x (with automatic focus/zoom) a superb camera and lens combination, love the camera, but once you dabbled with a Leica, you tend to take another step up the Leica ladder. I picked up the Q (also automatic focusing) which only enhanced my desire to climb the ladder higher, superb Leica brand, now I have the Leica M240, which is manual focus, the real Leica experience of manual operation. I had to slowly jump back into manual shooting from years of automatic digital shooting. My transition from automation Leica to back to manual digital was tenuous, but well worth experimenting with the Vario-X and Q. Can’t beat the quality build of a Leica camera, with the introduction of the M10-R...the curiosity and desire is building again...

I bought a Q2 recently. I am not a talented photographer, but I love photography. The Leica look was not a myth. This camera actually makes me look like a talented photographer. It is such a joy to use. It is so much better to use on travel than a DSLR. Also, I own a Fuji X100s. I consider that camera a toy, which produced awful prints. This is my first Leica. My next one will be a Q4 or Q5 in the distant future.

The bug is real. I bought my first Leica - an M240 - in 2017. Since then, I sold that one and bought an M10. I then sold the M10 and bought another M240. I bought (and kept) and M8 (which I'll never sell). I bought (and sold) a Monochrom late last year. My most recent purchase was the SL2, a month or so ago. The money's been hard to justify - I'm not wealthy - but the joy of use these incredibly well thought-out cameras bring to my life and the joy the images bring end up being enough justification. Enjoy your Q2!!

OK. I have watched your video numerous times. Just like you I’m I pride myself with old school technology. I lived in the dark room all of my younger life and I miss that connection with at part of photographic art. After watching your video, like you I bought the Leica Q2 this morning and can’t wait for B&H to ship. Your video was the decision maker for me and I can completely agree with your perspective. I have seen, watched many of your videos. I don't always "get" or like your content. But this video really hit home for me. I am glad you put into words about how I feel about my gear. I don't have Leica, I don't own a Jaguar either. My "leica" is an Olympus EM-1 Mk1. Technology is great, but what's greater is finding a camera, a system that just makes you want to create images. My Olympus bodies are old, first generation. But I feel about them as you described the Q2, Thanks for sharing... I really enjoyed this video!

I have long been tormented by "what camera" to buy next. Like you I am an equipment horse. Swore I would NEVER go digital, thank god I did, it brought photography back to me. I have an M4 and M6 with a 50mm & 35mm Summicron lens. I was thinking about the Z6 with an adapter but something just does not feel right, I suspect, with all the phase detection built into the sensor, you get banding? I use the lenses on my Fuji xe2 and pro one and they are great but I would like the wider angle of view which they provide on full frame. Enter the Q2. 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and macro? I am trying to justify buying this camera. I like the look, unlike a used M9 type 262 (used) I do not like the step, aesthetically, it's just not attractive.

I'm a 3 year leica Q owner. I love this camera from day 1, and from day 2 I almost never like to use my previously well appreciated A6000, which now I loath. So now I want to find another camera that will give me the same owner experience but interchangable lens. I was waiting for XT4 but Im not sure I can go back to APC. I know A7mk3 could be good, but Sony form factor and menu, nahhh. No magic. So I don't know.

Hi and thanks for sharing. Some comments say “M” next. I get that but I went the other way. As an M10-P owner I hankered for something more substantial than a smart phone but which allowed me to capture the moment when the moment only lasts for a... well a moment. So autofocus, auto everything in fact. So voila, the Q2. I’ve owned one for about 12 months and love it. Manual when I want, auto when I want. Perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the M, the ability to switch lenses and photography in the slow lane. But for that grab and camera and head out the door moment, day trip or full-on vacation, nothing beats the Q2 for me. Enjoy and thanks for your cool channel

Some fourty years ago it was a Mamiya 645 that did that to me. I was a student, barely had the money to buy it, but with some help and turning around every nickel, I got it. It was the entry into a very different photography experience, which led me to Hasselblad, RB 67 pro SD, Rollei SL66, and Linhoff cameras. It has been a travel for the ultimate experience. I do know what you are talking about. However, being a native German, I never bought a Leica, even though I am still thinking about it. Having the gear, that you need does not mean, that you have the gear you yearn for, the gear that makes the sun rise. Just being around with it, looking is it. How often did I return, not having done a single shot, because it did not feel right. Was I disappointed? Not at all. Very sweet moments and very many of them. Having been nearly blind on one eye in my youth I learned what is so important about art and photography. It is the art of looking and anticipating what the result will be/can be. Plus pushing the release button of these cameras, was expensive at that time, nothing in comparison of what it is today. Knowing the different types of film and mastering them, was the other story. Did I love my Hasselblad (500 CM)? Oh yes I did, she was a phenomenal camera. By the way she was the first one I had with a magazine that you could change in daylight. Sounds strange right, was phenomenal at that time. Depth of field she had an indicator on the lens. And but of course, they all were completely manual. Thinking back to them, I did/do not miss a thing. Because first it the thinking and than the how to. Roland from good old Germany

I’ve shot everything over 40 years. Finally sold my Nikon system, my Sony system, my Fuji system, my oly system, and bought an m10 with 4 lenses. My dream system. Then had a financial setback and had to sell all. Living in a different personal economy, I struggled to find a system that I would be happy with. Thought about the X100. And the xe3. And the penf. All great technically. I rented all of those. And the xpro3! Technically wonderful. But none made me happy. Years ago, Steve Jobs introduced a product called the Apple TV. In the intro, he showed remote controls from Japan for media control. They had 40+ buttons on them. The Apple TV had 6. Simplicity. Nothing more. After spending 2.5 hours one night reading the manual for the xpro3 and working my way thru all the sub menus, I walked the camera to my lensrental box, and shipped it back early. I knew, in my heart of hearts, as technically wonderful as it was, it just wasn’t for me. I ordered a Leica cl from lens rentals for a week. I never looked at a manual. I turned it on, put it in aperature priority, dng mode, and went out shooting. I’ve rented the q2 and lust after it. But after a dozen low bids for a used cl, finally found one and own it. I genuinely love it more than my m10. I’ve watched many of your videos, and appreciate your channel and have subscribed. But, watching your enthusiasm, and seeing your shot of Hugh brownstone (his KZbin channel was a guiding influence in my getting the cl), “makes me happy”, as Hugh would say. Leica? You either get or you don’t. It isn’t about technology. But if you like the simplicity of the best built, best feeling products made, you will be smiling for a long long time. Welcome!

Not the Q2 for me but the original Q. I now have one. The journey begins. Perhaps when I've totally changed my viewfinder perspective and investigated my 28mm focal length potential, there is I hope, or at least a good chance, for my art of photography to expand. It's good to see this camera in the hands of someone who does good photography. I have a Q2 as part of my camera kit and I do not claim to be any sort of great photographer, but when I go looking (e.g. on Flikr or 500px, etc.) for great images from a Leica, they seem to be few and far between. When I purchased my Q2 (using a lot of Fuji/Sony trade-in dollars) I was very conscious of the fact that the typical owner of a digital Leica largely saw these expensive devices as accessories rather than photographic instruments. Irrespective, I am happy with my decision to go Q2. Looking forward to seeing some great images from you. PS: I use mine very much in full manual focus and aperture-priority mode. I still use an Olympus EM1mk2 with Pro zoom lenses for a lot of photography (and the image quality stands up to the Leica), but there is a certain depth of feeling in well exposed Q2 images!

I know exactly what you're saying. When I couldn't find the Q2 in stock, I bought and returned the Q-P twice. I kept telling myself it wasn't worth the money, but once you use one of the Q series, you are HOOKED. The camera is phenomenal in the images it produces, it feels incredibly easy to use, but still allows full manual control by knobs and the aperture ring, for that old school camera feel. This camera goes with me everywhere I go.

Now, I'm going back to a DSLR, not for the feel but for the megapixels. I bought low actuation D810. Excellent! It’s like a golf club. It has to look and feel right to bring out the best. There is just something about a Leica. It slows one down and makes one look at the scene differently, creatively. I love my Nikon Z7 and D850, but I went to the M10P to go back to my roots of my grandmother’s 1955 M3. There is just something about the feel and vision.

I had to laugh when the shot of the Kodak Instamatic X-15 popped up. That was my first camera, bought in 1972 or '73. I actually took a photography class in high school using it, which with no exposure controls or focus control was quite a challenge. It's sitting in its original box in my closet, and despite 126 cartridges and Magicubes no longer being available, I can't bring myself to part with it.

As long as the Q2 can make you happy and having that sense of fulfilment owning and using it, it is worth more than $5,000. Some like a new car, some a new house but some an iconic camera which you can take it around 24/7. I would choose a Leica Q2 too. Perhaps, that's the only camera one needs. Travel the world (not now though with the Covid19 still around) with the Q2, have some gourmet food, a bottle of wine and experience some exotic places and document life as we go along. What else do one needs ??

Outstanding! Thank you. Getting ready to drive a Jeep and small teardrop around the country. Have found Leica to have some kind of magic my Nikons don't have. People ask me what that means and I'm lost explaining it. You did a great job. This Q2 would be a good travel camera.

I am making baby steps. Currently Leica D-Lux 109; left all my Olympus E1, E3, E5 with all the lenses in the bags thinking I will pick them up . . . but really happy with the results from this little dynamo (actually better files from Leica). Looking to upgrade to D-Lux 7. It's light, not threatening and did I say light. At advanced years small and handy is inspiring. I am considering Qx but it appears massive need to see it in flesh. Tried the SL2 for 10 days - beautiful! but a brick. 💡CL-ish size and lens flexibility (a CLQ :)) with IBIS is my hearts desire so will see if Leica will create one. I don't need the red dot on it, more stealth is my style by Leica, video not required . . . one has to hope. Someone once said: "Man without hope is like a house without windows"

I watched your first video on the Q2 and then, a few days later, bought it (much to my financial horror). It seems only fair that your video had the same effect on you.

I love how open you are to the many exceptional brands available as opposed to being loyal to one. I would love to give this Leica a go someday. Honestly for me I cannot justify spending so much money, but I can understand why others would. They are unique in their own right. It's nice to see cameras that let you go at your own pace, instead of this whole idea of having the top end, and speediest specs around.

I was never a fan of 28mm so ignored the original Q. Bought a Fuji X70 and never really gelled with it for several reasons, but primarily faffing about with the lens hood. Then, I bought the Ricoh GRIII to extend my test of 28mm. I actually really liked that camera because the photos were sharp, unlike the X70. Having this good experience, I bought a used Q which I really enjoyed. But I did find the restriction of 28mm a bit limiting and using the crop reduced IQ too much. The they launched the Q2. After much thinking, I picked up my Q2 this week, and will bounce between 28mm and 35mm as the 30MP of the 35mm crop should be acceptable.

Took the plunge a while ago. Found a used/mint version. Took it on a mini-vacation. Can't explain the feel of it It's sturdy. It's serious. The color palette is like the old Kodachrome 64. The b&w are reminiscent of the street photography masters. I work as a freelance contributor to three newspapers, and have a ton of Sony gear, but the Leica is for me. It's my baby.

Always love your reviews. I have been a Nikon shooter for years. Eighteen months ago, I started shooting Fujis. Lovely little cameras. But for me, I love my Nikon D700. Big, heavy, and oh my, loud. I make no apologies here. It is a marvelous machine. Superior colors to Fuji...there. I said it.

You asked, so... I grew up Leica. My dad bought his M3 new in 1965. It’s the camera that documented my family & life for decades. I learned on it as a teen. He gave it to me when I was in my 20s. I had a Konica system in HS & college, but it got retired when I had the M3 to shoot with. Recently I got a used M9 & it sparked the artist in me again. My M lenses are flawless with it & the feel of using it takes me back to how it felt to fall in love with photography in the first place. No software to correct my mistakes. Just a pure camera that renders phenomenal images when I use it right.

I discovered your Q2 videos at the perfect time. I have been trying to decide what to get as an upgrade from my Leica V-lux 4 (which coincidentally I also used the first time at the Grand Canyon.) The Q2 appears to be an excellent step up for a travel and general purpose camera.

I love my Q2 also and part of my decision to go ahead with the purchase was how happy it obviously made you in your review video. The new firmware was a great improvement too. I’d love to see a video of the ways that you use the camera and more of the photos that you’re able to make with it now that you have such a perfect everyday tool to always pack along. Thanks!

I 100% understand and agree with you. I typically shoot music, sports, and street photography. When I'm shooting music or sports, I use my Canon 5D Mark III. However, when I'm shooting street or just personal stuff, I use my Leica M10. Using the M10 is just different. It makes you slow down and really "make" the picture. It may sound deep, but using it just feels different.

Thanks to your very infomative review of the Q2 I decided to buy one, justifiying that the 47 mp would allowme to make gorgeous and bigger prints of my art (painting). I have had if for a year and I enjoy it a lot taking photos of my every day life. I am not a professional photographer just an enthusiast and because of that I feel that I dont take complete advantage of all what this camera has to offer. I wish in the future you can give some technical advice to enrich the photo quality of your viewers. Thank you so much for sharing this video, as I some times feel that I gave myself such an expensive gift. I have to make up enjoying shooting for the investment.

Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger, I really understand what you mean and Hugh Brownstone (nice to see him in this video) talks about it in a very concise a clear way, some cameras are more than just the sum of the parts or the functionality, some cameras are a talisman and they help us fall back in love again with the craft, with the process, with the act of taking a photograph. And like you say, it´s fine if not everyone feels the same way, thank God we have options and we´re free to choose, but for some people, this kind of thing does matter, and if it makes you happy, what´s bad about that?. In my case, I dream about a Leica M10 (someday). Have a great day, and stay safe! New subscriber here ;)

After 48 years into my photo hobby I too decided I wanted a Leica and my choice was the Q2. After carrying heavy cameras and so many lenses which I "might need', the latter of which I then hardly ever used cause you get used to a favourite lens and not use the others, the Q2 is just right for me nicely balanced and being a fixed lens no need to change it. A lot of you tubers derided the digital zoom but I found the mono jpgs very usable especially on social media, so in fact I actually have four lenses in one. It's now become my daily camera not just a travel camera as it was originally bought for.

I totally resonate with this! These cameras are very different in feel and use. I have 3 of them now. I made the decision to go down the path of Leica but one thing that you may not realize is that they are not as expensive as you think. The lenses hold their value and often increase in price over a longer term. You can almost always buy used lenses and sell them at the price even if they don’t go up. The GAS becomes less as you realize you just don’t need the other stuff. There is a nice tax benefit you can write down the camera as a single or multi year expense. As a personal aside I owned the Q for about 2 years and found that I often wanted to go wider like when I was in Paris. I eventually sold the Q and replaced it with the TL2 and CL. I sold the Q after I took it with SL and the TL2 out to Joshua Tree and shot all three cameras with same subject matter for a day from sunrise to blue hour. What I saw was very little difference between the three cameras. But I gained flexibility with the TL2 with options for wider angle. The only downside is not having that 28mm Summilux which is just incredible. I may well pick up a q again as it’s an awesome camera, the Q2 is amazing but high megapixels often equals a pain in butt, I’m fine with the 24. I do have a d850 for higher resolution, but honestly more is not always better. I use camera’s as tools and the Leica’s always deliver a wonderful image and look I can’t achieve with my other cameras, they also are very basic and simple in function. The camera gets out of the way and you’re responsible for the photo. I like them for what they don’t do if that makes sense.
