This is why mental health needs to be taken more seriously and why it’s so important to support mothers during their postpartum period. This could’ve been avoided if she had continued treatment, had stricter supervision and if her family had checked on her more consistently so they would’ve known she was ignoring court orders. I feel so bad about this case. Deasia is not fully at fault due to her mental state. I know she hates herself for doing this. Her family failed her by not adhering to the plans in place and not helping her with medications. Postpartum psychosis is not something to play around about. It is something that can take lives. I never fully blame mothers with postpartum psychosis when they kill the baby. I feel like they need a mental hospital temporarily and then jail. Just living with the knowledge that the baby you were so excited to have was killed by yourself is hell enough.
