The 90s era JTCC and JGTC cars are the ones I adore the most. Sadly those two racing series got very little air time in the US even long after those series were over but I built many scale models of GT-R's like the famous blue Calsonic R32 just to name one. Love what Built by Legends is doing and I appreciate this channel covering it in such detail.

Sadly when I visited Spoon they didn’t have much for my Mitsubishi, so I went back to the USA empty handed on parts. Type One down the road was pretty damn impressive though, I remember seeing an exhaust just like the one in your video being built. Japan has to be one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been, and I can’t wait to make it back as soon as this corona crap is gone! Also just so we’re clear and for everyone that has never been to Spoon Sports Japan in person. They sell parts for Dihatsu, Honda, Isuzu, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW Mini, Citroen, Fiat, Maserati, Mercedes Benz, Mini (classic), Opel, Peugeot, Renault, and Volkswagen.

It looks a lot like the JTCC car you have pictured at 16:01 used a reverse flow the engine to allow the use of ITBs and a well tuned carbon fiber induction chamber to produce more power. As mentioned this allows mounting of the engine lower in the chassis.
@visionenippon-captbradford9344
@visionenippon-captbradford9344 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. That is right. There are almost no photos left even within Japanese media that seems to exist ( perhaps I just haven’t found it yet) or the original 1994 JTCC side flow exhaust. The screenshot of the engine you mentioned is a later version reverse head. Even any shot of the engine of a JTCC EG9 is really hard to come by.
@LZ6U
@LZ6U 3 жыл бұрын
@@visionenippon-captbradford9344 It looks like standard touring car stuff. Somebody read the rules and found that it wasn't illegal to re-mount the engine lower. Using the free space in front of the engine for the larger carbon air box may have been a secondary benefit. Or maybe the induction change was the goal with the lower engine mounting a secondary benefit. Top level touring cars really only look like production cars. Get up close and you'll find everything has been re-engineered for going fast. If the budget is large enough and the rules don't disallow it, the engineers will do it. Ford's BTCC Mondeo V6 had the engine leaned way over to get it low and rearward for similar reasons as Honda did on the flow reverse or side exhaust routing. The BTCC Mondeo raced with a 60 degree V6 but one head pointed up while the other forwards. Exactly nothing like a production car of the same body shell.

@@LZ6U no he talk about the reverse head h22 in the picture show for a couple of second the head is litteraly flipped 180° so the intake face the front of the car and the exhaust face the firewall don't remember why they did this but it some freaking great engineering

But they have got so much potential just like the other H cars having the golden VTEC and double wishbone layouts. Hopefully my message will get to them. You say most of these cars had fender gaps, but the jaccs jtcc accord and even the Castrol accord were tucking the tire. The castrol accrord seemed to have switched to a aftermarket fender to keep a low ride height with out tucking the tire. Is there a reason these cars were ran this low? I see a couple other cars in the class doing the same thing. It’s hard to find actual data on these cars these days.

I've been following Opera's performance works on social media for years and i seen he working with the "carbon layering" technique recently however is REALLY have my doubts about the actual effectiveness of it. From a physics point of view it would be REALLY difficult to achieve structural rigidity by just simply layering carbon fiber in some areas due to the fact that it would require it to have many strong contact/attaching points spread throughout the surface area for it to work as it is described since all the force would be transferred from the chassis through whatever is holding the carbon fiber layer and to the carbon fiber layer itself and that junction would be providing the extra rigidity...if it cannot transfer the forces directly from the chassis to the carbon layer it can't really provide any structural rigidity ..and simply layering carbon fiber on top of metal without attaching it can't provide any structural rigidity no matter how strong the carbon fiber layer is those would behave like 2 completely independent structures ... like imagine if you wanted to build a simple roll cage and your main reason was to have more structural rigidity but you don't attach it to the chassis ..that roll cage wouldn't provide any structural rigidity to the chassis since it would be like 2 completely independent structures inside of one another..sure it would still provide safety in a case of a crash since you would be inside the rollcage that is stronger than the chassis but it wouldn't make the chassis itself more rigid since its not attached to it

@@olavofernandes7286 Don't get me wrong Yamamoto-san is amazingly skilled in fabrication and he does have experience with race car building but that still doesn't make much sense from a engineering/physics point of view. The concept of hybrid composite structures is as old as composite engineering itself but as far as i know it is not something so simple to be achieved. From what i seen the way he is doing it seems to me that is practically impossible to achieve that unless he figured out a way to attach the carbon layer to the metal to make it a single structure mechanically which im really curious to know if and how he did that ...if it were something so simple as just layering carbon on top of metal and having the forces that affect the chassis to transferring directly to the carbon layer i can guarantee you that this would be a much more "common" modification that many people would be doing in order to achieve structural rigidity but that is not the case the only cars we see using hybrid composite technology are high end race cars and hyper cars and the reason is that it is not that simple ...they dont just do a layer of carbon fiber on top of metal, their chassis is engineered from scratch and they usually adopt a single piece composite monocoque structure design ..that is a design that in infact can replace a rollcage and provide extreme structural rigidity...not to mention it can get much more complex since even the carbon fiber weaving,fiber thickness,direction and curing process and many other factors can affect the structural integrity on a micro level ..this type of stuff requires computer simulation, giant autoclaves and alot of engineering and ALOT of money to be achieved it is really top tier of motorsports stuff that is pretty much out of reach for most due to cost... even highly skilled legendary japanese tuners

I'm curious about potential galvanic corrosion with carbon bonded to the sheet metal? I was under the impression there would have to be a layer of something non conductive or maybe a titanium. The build is insane and would love to see this up close, great work.
