Yes you could just build a roof on the farm to block light but the spawn algorithm checks any block from the bottom to the top of the world for spawn ability, so technically without a roof is faster, so this is what the light update suppressor is for.

EoL Farms are broken in 1.20.1, because mojang added a new light engine which reloads every chunk and basically breaks ur farm, so no mobs spawn in the portals

Im still thinking the stacked raid farm is the best. unlimited emeralds and a rate far better than you can use them. The only good drops that come from mobs are Bones, Gunpowder, Redstone, and Emeralds, and 3 of those are dropped by the stacked raid farm. It's also so much simpler to set up. it took me two weeks to make an EOL farm, and 6 hours to make the stacked raid farm. for my single player, I'll never be making another one that's for sure.
