Yup, this is a controversial episode I know! I paid for this iPod my self too, I am genuinely excited to have a real 256GB iPod. Even if you don't think it's an ipod ha! The vid got way too long so heres some extra info: Apple says battery life for music is 40 hours, which puts it on par with the last of the classics. But I don't anywhere near that long but thats because I find myself doing more stuff on this. I love playing one finger puzzle games on this so there goes battery. Puzzle games and Frank Zappa on a handheld offline device is my kinda heaven. iOS also has the slow charge stuff where it guesses your charging habits to charge the device slower to protect the battery and make it last longer. Thats ballin. Also dark mode on my iPod! USB C is real cool but Lightning is not a bad 2nd place. Especially since Apple makes Lightning to USB C cables so if you have heaps of USB C chargers (or a macbook...) you don't need dongles. I wish Apple would just call it the "iPod". It makes no sense to call it the Touch anymore since this is the only iPod left. Wireless charging is a total must on a future one, but keep the small dingus screen and "welcome home" button. No really, I never want to type words with a clickwheel again. It's funny, then annoying, then frustrating all in the span of 5 minutes. The tiny 4" screen makes a nice 1 handed music dootler to me. It aint cheap, no way. But man it's so crazy thin and light. The glass and alloy is super nice, all my mates who held it went "why did you get an iPod tou.... oh wow thats so light". Folks say to just use Airplane mode on my phone, but then I can miss work offers or important updates so that doesn't work for me. Eggs.

But, all said, it ends at the reasons are the same, having portable offline music with nice high quality and as little else as possible, it's based on a smart phone in so many ways yet is the polar opposite. That moment when you have to explain people that yes, not relying on the Internet 24/7 is good, bezels are good to hold stuff, small size is good to hold in hands, headphone jacks are useful, an actual physical buttons are useful too... (by the way this newer iPod sounds great because they actually added a good DAC inside it, the Wolfson Media chips that manufacturers use when they care about sound quality, also present on.... the PSP!) It's sort of weird and sad how the industry went and how the consumers just accept this... Damn, I feel old with this. But proud of being so. Cheers to being old!

Hold on a sec. The PSP had a Wolfson DAC?! O.O Dude, this randomly blew my mind into orbit! I totally agree with you. Ever tried holding an all-screen phone with one hand while eating ice-cream with another and deciding you need your phone in landscape? Your hand will _love_ it! xD On those older stuff? Just pick on the bezel - done! But hey, we gotta teach the young ones what the oldies used to do, ey? ^-^

@@RiveTheRat Hang on, that one might be the Cirrus Logic ones... Now I'm in doubt... AKA child's first phone. I actually got one of these for my like 9th birthday, it was one of the later generations (it got iOS 7 and more). I called it my "phone" pretty much until I got an actual phone like 2-3 years later. To be fair, I was fairly justified in that description, since I pretty much exclusively used it to FaceTime my friends (I'd use FaceTime audio only so that I could really sell the "phone" aspect), watch KZbin, and play games.

Maybe from Apple, but many other DAPs are being made by various companies, and sound much better and have support for more music file types like DSD and MQA and higher audio resolutions. Plus they tend to have dedicated play/pause/skip/back buttons in addition to the touch screen.

@@illford because they can do just as much as the new ones. Like the Galaxy S7 and the Edge are still popular to this day, still just as functional and useful to this day. Pixel 2, not that old, but if you ask me, probably the best one other than the 3a. Here's hoping the 5 isn't as disappointing as the 4. Basically all OnePlus phones are still great to this day. The 5t will officially get Android 10, and the 6 and 6t are still the bomb. The 7, 7t, and their pro versions are all awesome and will continue to be for years to come. The 8 and the 8 pro were a disappointment if you ask me... But most anyone can only get incremental upgrades right now with the slower rate tech is moving at.

The Note 9 is still $300 I think, and that was the perfect phone of that year, minus the price at the time. The pixel 4a and 3a are still smooth, and plenty fast, and cheap. Dark For what it’s worth, I got one recently and I love it. I wanted to try iOS on a phone sized device, and I wanted to replace my 7th gen iPod Nano. It’s quite speedy, and I like the design. Tbh I think I’ll get an iPhone when my Samsung goes, this iPod blows my Samsung out of the water even though my Samsung has 3 times the RAM, and a newer processor. Now, my Samsung has been reduced to pretty much calling and texting only. I really like how the touch looks, I like the colour and the size. I wish I could just throw a SIM card in here, but oh well. So imo, the iPod does have a reason to exist, but I think it should stay in the “music” section of Apple’s website, as I’m aware it’s kind of a niche device.

@@Andrew982_ the slowdowns are likely due to you installing all kings of crap on that samsuck device. An oldass iphone 6 (what your ipod is) should not be faster than any new device, even if it's a samsuck, which is actually a pretty bad android device. Only a custom unofficial rom could maybe save that one. I have nothing against niche devices.. I mean I wish they would still make the pocket pc, make the screen bigger, make device thinner, but keep it a pocket pc, keep the stylus, keep windows mobile the pc style, don't try to make it smartphone style, with big ui elements. keep the dpad and the four buttons on the bottom because these are used to play the games.. I really loved these device.. but the problem here with ipod touch is that it looks exactly like iphone and works like one too, this in my opinion isn't ipod, it's an old iPhone without the phone, sold as new.

@jankristijan5889 Жыл бұрын
Eletronics enthusiast here! From the tehnical side of things the DAC's in almost all devices perform the same. They have the same characteristics and the differences between them if any are too minor to notice. Now if we talk about output amps I can say that they perform differently and sound differently according to what the manufacturer wants. But often they use a flat output that again just doesn't sound that different. The biggest difference in sound that I find is with different speakers or iems that I might use, makes sense because these are made to sound differently. Looking at this from a audiophile perspective I can say that I find differences in different devices only if I know that I am listening to a particular device. If it is a blind test I can't hear a difference. Makes me question my mind when comparing a Shanling to a Ipod. Both sound amazing.
