If you’re curious as to why Mars didn’t complete its orbit, it’s cuz earth completes its rotation around the sun faster than mars, making it seem like mars just did a 180 from our perspective once we overtake it. The phenomena is termed ‘Retrograde Motion of Mars’ if you wanna look it up. Some really interesting stuff.

It’s like passing a car on the highway. You and the other car are both moving in the same direction, but you are moving faster, making the passing object look like it’s going backwards when it’s really just being left behind.

man I just went down a wikipedia rabbit hole, I didn't even know the model rafal drew in episode 1 was an accurate geocentric model with all the deferrants and epicycles that were used to explain this retrograde motion in the geocentric model, its actually so cool.
