omen is a regular controller with agressive play and lurk potential. Riot in recent patches has been nerfing KJ(the only viable sentinel on all maps) a lot. Viper if played around a cheap gun like shorty or judge can easily act as an aggressive sentinel as well as a passive controller with again great lurk potential. Also not forgetting her post plant ability. The pro meta is always about map control and timing where viper does the former better and omen shines in the other with his aggression. Earlier it was kinda seen with astra but she was also nerfed and made the comp defense heavy on a already defense heavy map like split. Double controller has always been viable imo. Its just that we are seeing it more often.

Double controller seems to be the most preferable among the team comps which have one of each agent class(1 duel, 1 ini, 1 senti), and there will almost always be Viper because she's insanely oppressive with her decay and vulnerable(sometimes Harbor because of the slow and shield depending). Not sure how Riot can balance it without killing solo controller Viper, though both the maps where she solo controls are out of the rotation for now(Icebox and Breeze)

Add: it gets a bit messy if both teams run double controller, so maybe if teams figure out some wild triple initiator strat to counter double smokes we start to see the depth of anti-stratting as early as pick phase. Also interesting to think about if/when Riot will add agent bans

On some maps, no sentinel with double duelist seems to work as well or even better, especially on split

I mean, it's not like it's becoming "choose viper or lose" like it was with chamber, she's just becoming a good pick to fill out the last slot on a team. It's more like agents like sage who work as secondary agents to their class could use a buff

Update: Welp, they're really gonna hit Viper hard with the upcoming nerfs by reducing the regeneration speed of fuel, we'll see how that affects her usage in double controller but she's definitely going to be a feel like even more of a troll pick now for solo controller on the current map pool

Wait a second. Viper has never been a troll pick for Ascent. The wall can cover A site, B site, you can work with it on mid too, you can use the bubble for good one-ways and you also have very easy lineups to work with, plus some busted, pain in the ass ults for postplant

Initiators util is a direct counter to smokes. Just ask ur initiators to coordinate with u better and if they listen it’ll be much easier. I personally play double smokes and the reason defense is easy with and retaking is hard against double smokes is that if you mis time initiator util with a duelist entry, ur not getting past the smokes.
