A masterclass for all would-be front men. This is how it's done! Even Glen is in awe of him. Mike Scott, legend!

Glen introducing and then playing with Mike must have been so special for him. Just look at him while he mouths the words along while Mike is singing. You can tell he is feeling like the luckiest man alive to be playing with Mike right then. Mike Scott and the Waterboys are one of THE most underrated bands ever to take a stage - I don't think Mike really gives a damn as long as he is doing what he loves most. They never were sell out's. It was always about the lyrics and the music. I feel in love with them in 1985 - First time I had ever heard anything by them and have loved them ever since. Stay well, live long and keep throwing your heart at us Mike - Were here to catch it. Love and Peace to all, everywhere.Thanks for sharing this.

I'd second this opinion of the Waterboys. Got into them in my coming of age music exploration circa 1990. Criminally underrated. But as you say Mike is a free spirit content to plough his own furrow regardless of the wider musical landscape or commercial pressures. Remember hearing an interview he gave to Dave Fanning in the early 90's. Such an interesting character. Loved the Celtic/Yeats mysticism and dreamlike vision of the West of Ireland or indeed his own Scotland. Although only 30 years ago the world was a much different place and people like Mike were allowed to follow their vision. These days who would allow a band to head out west to Spiddal, decamp to an old house and immerse themselves with the land, the music and the people for a few years? In these pandemic groundhog days the following lyrics seems so prescient.... "Now if you're feelin' weary If you've been alone too long Maybe you've been suffering from A few too many Plans that have gone wrong And you're trying to remember How fine your life used to be"

You gotta realize that Mike Scott was up there with the best back in mid 80s. The Waterboys toured with U2. He had The Big Music & other great songs that were very powerful. But he didn’t want the huge path of fame rather decided to be content with what he is

"This Is The Sea" These things you keep You'd better throw them away You wanna turn your back On your soulless days Once you were tethered And now you are free Once you were tethered Well now you are free That was the river This is the sea! Now if you're feelin' weary If you've been alone too long Maybe you've been suffering from A few too many Plans that have gone wrong And you're trying to remember How fine your life used to be Running around banging your drum Like it's 1973 Well that was the river This is the sea! Wooo! Now you say you've got trouble You say you've got pain You say've got nothing left to believe in Nothing to hold on to Nothing to trust Nothing but chains You've been scouring your conscience Raking through your memories Scouring your conscience Raking through your memories But that was the river This is the sea yeah! Now I can see you wavering As you try to decide You've got a war in your head And it's tearing you up inside You're trying to make sense Of something that you just don't see Trying to make sense now And you know you once held the key But that was the river And this is the sea! Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! Now I hear there's a train It's coming on down the line It's yours if you hurry You've got still enough time And you don't need no ticket And you don't pay no fee No you don't need no ticket You don't pay no fee Because that was the river And this is the sea! Behold the sea!

Everybody think there are two chords in this song, E and A, but there are two more. Anybody knows, please? But that was the river, chord = ? This is the sea, chord = ?
@declanmcdonnell69655 жыл бұрын
The first chord you're referring to, they just actually play a standard E again on guitar but the bass guitarist plays a G# bass note over it, so it sounds different (You can try incorporating the G# bass note with your E chord on guitar yourself but it might be a slightly difficult shape, depending on your level of playing.) ~ The second chord ("This is the sea") is F#minor then going to a quick A chord. Just trying to help!

Indeed, just go thru E & A add 9’s and then run thru sus4 & sus2 back to open E & A and you have covered a lot of fret board ground. Do that in all keys and man is that a great work out & knowledge!
