A little more than four years have passed since this heartbreakingly beautiful rendition was shared with us during one of the most scary and uncertain times in many of our lives. It was a gift then. It’s a gift still. Life has mostly returned to “normal” (or the new normal) and the urgency and uncertainty passed. But this song-this version of a song already in existence for years prior but somehow made more beautiful and more relevant-still touches me deeply, and still has an impact on my heart even though it hits a little differently now. Lordy, how I miss the gift we had of Chris Thile & company on stage and in our ears EVERY week (or damn near it) on Live from Here. He brought SO many new-to-my-ears, worthy musicians together and into my life every week and created pure magic. It was *priceless.* Once again, thank you to all the incredibly talented musicians who breathed new life into this piece and gifted it to us.❤

One of the most beautiful of all the beautiful gifts musicians are giving us during this time. Thank goodness we have #livefromhome and thank goodness we have Chris Thile.

Seven months later and this performance still breaks my heart in all the right places. I've never been so moved by a song performance. Ever. This is just as relevant now as then. Perhaps more. I hope you'll be able to bring back some incarnation of those beautiful live music collab shows in the not too distant future... in any setting. You're a gift. All of you.

I wish I could like this 7 billion times (one for each human on this planet who needs to hear this song right now). I first heard this live, over 10 years ago, in a tiny auditorium at Stanford, and Chris looked right into me as they were singing this song. I was going through a tough time, and it is indeed gratifying to know I’m on the other side of it now. This song is my comfort blanket. I cry now with joy when I hear this song (especially this version of it!) thank you, Chris, and Punch Brothers, you’re doing god’s work in helping us heal.

This is *the* music I associate most with the first few tragic, horrible, confusing months of COVID. You all captured our feelings perfectly in ways future generations won’t be bow to understand. Thank you.

I first heard this song about 10 years ago. I was in a bad place emotionally. First time an ex played this for me, and I cried for reasons I couldn't explain at the time. I wasn't dealing with my emotions at all back then, and this song was eye opening. It doesn't hit me the same now, but it's nice to reflect on how far I've come.

Perfect honest comment. You helped me understand something. Thank you.

I'm not sure I want it to happen, but if we were to demystify the emotional impact of music (tone/melody/harmony), and through experimentation make a repeatable process, it could become a powerful therapy tool. Better than affirmations, or color therapy, or the ones that attempt to break deep in our psyche with other tools. Maybe it already exists. I just know that music helps me discover what hides in my heart and I'm afraid that others won't find what would likewise enlighten and uplift them.

The secret MVP in this is the keys. All that warm ambience with the stark honesty of the folk instrumentation and vocals. Almost like pedal steel, but with much more meat to it.

I agree, those keys provide a nice layer for everything else to float on top of.

I saw `(and listened to) the Punch Brothers Live in my hometown of Enschede, the Netherlands a couple of years ago at the Crossing Border Festival. I am so grateful for that moment. it was one of the few moments in my life that my jaw dropped between my knees seeing them play. sweet memories. Keep on playing and stay safe (hope you get a competent president)

The best concert I've ever seen in my entire life was Punch Brothers in Seattle a few years ago. The show was the most high energy, entertaining, well paced show I've ever seen. The music was superb, the guys were flawless. There were three? Four encores? I think they would have kept playing if the venue would have let them. I preach the gospel of Punch Brothers to anyone who listens now.

I was playing a video game the other day and someone was asking for good songs to add to their playlist while things are the way they are right now. So I linked this, as I think it's a fitting song right now. His response was "The violin player looks so sad... THEY ALL LOOK SO SAD!!" I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but for me, I know I constantly find myself humming or singing it lately!

Man I can't imagine listening to this in April of 2020 when things were in a bad way. This song capture those emotions so well. A very minor tone, but a message that also drives the perseverance we all had. At least back in this time we were all united, since then we've been at each others throats...

I absolutely love this. It is one of the most magical songs I've ever heard. I think we can all agree that pandemic isolation sucks, but in this footage we can see how each artist is totally immersed in their instrument and sound, in a way that is difficult to see in a live performance where the musicians are also reacting to each other and to the audience.
@rujutaparikh84493 жыл бұрын
