I want to see the US slash our UN contribution. We are 36 trillion in debt, we cannot afford to give 17 billion to the UN. I'd say it's enough to keep the lights on in the building, utilities paid, until we're on a balanced budget. Then, and only then, we can pay for a few, tightly focused programs, but certainly less than a billion a year. I'd much rather see us spend OUR money on OUR infrastructure, not building things for other nations in theirs.

We do but its part of congresses mandate through various financial sub committees, a bunch of those committees submit a budget to the house floor every year and then the majority votes to pass it, its supposed to be the job of those committees to break down the spending and call for testimony from the various heads to set funding but all the committees end up doing is calling a couple people that draw national attention to try to campaign on the news reels that it generates. The committees like he says here just generally increase the budget and theres this mentality of use it or lose it throughout government, this idea that if you dont use 125% of your budget then you might only get 90% of what you got last year which is unacceptable to them. It leaves no incentive for them to cut costs since it would leave them far underbudget and potentially have people question why they need a large budget.
