While Herbie in the story is a 1963 model, there were 11 different year models from 1957 -1967 used in the first movie plus junkyard ones used for scenes where Herbie was wrecked or got some sort of damage. They were all modified to look like Herbie and had individual uses. For all of the other movies no one knows the exact amount of beetles that were used but they were all a variety of different years.

It might be a 1968 to 1970's Beetle because of the Tail light. Restoring a Beetle is no joke. You need time, patience and money to do it right. Mine is a 1968 which is still ongoing for more than 2yrs. Now. I tried my best to keep almost all the original parts of it. Sadly 75% is the only thing I can do because I dont have enough money and some of the parts are really hard to find and very expensive. But once it's finally done it's very satisfying and fullfilling since it's my fathers car which he really love and care when he was still alive. I'm trying my best to make him happy in heaven after I'm done with the restoration of his beloved car 🥰

For some reason this vidso feels staged to me. The engine looks pretty clean and new for being abandoned for 18 years. The paint doesn't look that bad, and 18 year old dirt doesn't fall that easy. Also, the interios seemed ok, dirty, but why the hell would they pressure wash the interior like that? Flooded in water and soap. Ridiculous

The design of these cars is fabulous. The noise behind you and a gem of an engine, simple yet clever. I’ve worked on them and just a joy. In the UK we had a car called the Morris Minor in the late 50s and 60s. You generally found people loved/hated one or other. I loved the VW and really loathed the Morris which was noisy, uncomfortable, unreliable and, to me a dreadful car despite its designer., Alec Isigonis, being considered a genius. He went on to design the Mini and latter vehicles in the Austin/Morris lineup. I had several and hated them all. Eventually I bought a bug and loved it. You did so well to get this car and did exactly the right thing in keeping it. It look superb with period patina. With its provenance $20k is feasible. Good luck.

Well, in my opinion, you have nice looking sports VW. But, you should always remove all of the carpet first before you ever use any type of cleaners . It doesn’t matter how long the vehicle was sitting … Get yourself a good steam cleaner to use on any and all carpets .. you need to place that carpet somewhere that you know the Sun shines and there is plenty of heat around it… let it set for a couple of days to dry out and check it before placing it back in the car

It's a 1600 3:05 engine, has side vents behind the back windows, and the old non round tail lights, which makes it a 1971 model. And there was no 1600 S, that "S" was taken from something else and stuck on there. This is not a Herbie movie car, not a 1963 model, and doesn't really need to be restored, just really cleaned up. It actually doesn't look in bad shape. I think it was stored inside or it would be much more rotted. This one is all for likes.

They asked me how I was going to have it towed then I went out started the car and the guy came running out saying he didn't want to sell it although I was already half way down the road and it was to late.

The offer you got is definitely from a car collector, it's a good. Deal to sell it straight away if you are not for big money. You also won't get big money in such a short ownership of yours but you will after atleast 5 years of ownership and you will get probably 20 to 35 thousand dollars if you get a mad beetle lover buying as his first beetle not a previous beetle owner. But for all this you will profit out only if you get a reasonable car restorer who is not a money grabber or who exersices professional arrogance but professional expertise. Good luck

Hate to break it to you, but the chances of this being a movie car are pretty slim especially Herbie the love bug just because it’s white doesn’t mean it was in Herbie the love bug. I had a ‘73 Super Beetle that I purchased with Student Loan money in my Senior year back in ‘84. It look a lot like this one. They didn’t change much from the original NAZI design from the ‘30s but it was a good car when you didn’t have much money. My ROTC SGT said the best thing that Hitler ever did (besides die) was make the VW Bug. I wish I had a ‘74 Sun Bug like my tennis buddy from VCU with the curved front window (finally) and hand crank sunroof. I think that was the best year before they blacked out the chrome (yuck) and it eventually couldn’t pass tougher US emissions and couldn’t be imported here. Parts were still fairly easy to find but not so much now. BTW: I paid every cent of my student loan. All 10k!
