One time I got completely flabbergasted when an entire 6 mile long train sped past us like we were nothing. We were going about 18 mph and it was going 55 to 70 (don’t know exactly). This clearly demonstrates how modern traffic has moved on. 30 MPH is clearly too fast for a bicycle on a public road. The machine has not kept up with motor-car development. A model-T Ford would also seem uncomfortably fast at 30 on this road. It would certainly need much more care and attention from the driver to remain safe. 20MPH would be quite fast enough in town. The pedal cycle needs to find its place in traffic. It must either accelerate quickly to a SAFE 30 MPH, where it can run smoothly and safely, with the same level of braking and steering as an average car; in which case it can take a car-size place on the road; OR it can remain safe by travelling slower, and taking up much less road-space by running close to the edge of the road, where it can pass, and be passed by, wider vehicles without causing an obstruction. One thing is for certain: It cannot do both, at the whim of some clown wearing a funny hat!

It depends on the bicycle not your silly opinion. Most of my bikes cost more than my car. On my Bmx when I did sprint training I could hit 33mph. On a road ride I could do 40mile at 25mph easily. Down hill on a road bike I could slipstream to 55mph. There are bikes evokes that cost £15k that can do 50-60mph. However you need a motorcycle licence and then need to have road legal things fitted to them. But to say the bicycles aren’t capable or safe is silly. Everything comes down to the person in control.

I completely understand that bicycles are supposed to ride in the lane like cars and I respect that, but not on roads with higher speed limits. Where I live there are a lot of cyclists in groups and they all ride in the middle of the lane when traffic comes and never get out of the way, then they come up to the next stop sign or light and pass all of the cars that just went around them and get in the way all over again. Most of the time they do not obey any of the regulatory signs and just pull out in front of cross traffic without waiting for the light to change or even stopping at the stop signs. One guy even got hit while illegally passing a car on the right while the car was turning right! I do see you obeying the posted signs and riding properly in your videos but I think you may be one of very few cyclists who do. Cars are not watching for bicycles and you are really playing a life and death game at the cost of being on the road. Even if you ride right and obey all the laws it's still a gamble. I quit riding due to that risk. Also the cyclists I rode with all had the mentality that traffic needed to watch out for them. That's a useless mentality when you're dead because you didn't move out of the way in a 55 zone because you thought you were "in the right".

This is not the best video I've seen to put your argument across. 1. You're driving while holding a phone to film yourself (Bad Driving) 2. You're driving on a nice smooth Road so no bumps for filming in the car. 3. You're Cycling on a road with cracks and bumps not the same road even the car would be shaking. 4. The Cycle Lane 2 feet to your right for most of the Video looks much better maintained than the road you choose to cycle on. 5. If you feel it's harder & so unpleasant for a bike to do 30mph on this road why not do 26-28mph on the bike lane and let the cars have room to safely pass you? We all share the road and the solid white line with the bike means cars should keep this lane free for the cyclists. If you have a problem with tailgaing it could be your cycling like a mad man on a mission. Using the cycle lanes might just save your life.

Given you can actually keep a 30mph pace which is approximately the speed limit in single lane streets I don't see any issue with riding on the road, but in other cases were you see some biker doing 8mph that is a little slow in comparison. They could get an more expensive bicycle with a electric motor, but no one gives a dam about stolen bicycles. Hence all you see are slow pokes on the road(only one reason of a multitude).

Also a person in a car going 30mph risks practically nothing in comparison to a bicyclists. I’ve gone many of times down hill for an extended period of time and it is certainly enjoyable “especially” after having gone uphill a long way, but you start to think that you are in a pretty precarious position flying down with no protection at all to top it off from not even a helmet let alone skin protected in anyway. Body bashing into the ground, vehicles etc is quite the thought process going on when all of a sudden the bike can break apart, wheel come off you name flat out of nowhere.😲

These modern bicyclists have taken biking to the next level, therefore increasing popularity, turning it into a pretty big hobby and sport. So you have a ton more people getting into this shit, obstructing the road with their lack of acceleration and constant speed, and also being a general road hazard.
