How do you know what bike to buy ?

I got a new bike, the Specialized Stumpy eco pro T Type and figured this would be a cool way to test it out. I challenged myself on a climb that I truly dislike and a fun dh trail. I took the bike out to some trails in Laguna / Aliso California. The trail I rode down was called lynx, one of my favorites. And the climb up was called Cholla, a trail I always try avoiding. I was very surprised on my climb time up I was dreading it but I beat the average time which was 7 minutes. I will say the geometry of the bike feels great so the climb maybe wasn’t as bad….. I feel like challenging myself to something hard will distract me from all the new bike parts and help me focus on my goal which will lead me to truly feel how the bike is. To me, I think feeling the best on a climb and a descend is important. Overall NEW BIKE days are the best days so anything we do or ride will be fun!

I just got almost the same bike. The Stumpy Pro T-type (not Evo). Same components basically. I did notice the T-type shifts slower than mechanical, like a few microseconds pause. It's nice that you can shift under full power though. Also, in the app you can set it to shift 2 or 3 gears at once with a long press. You can also switch the buttons. I found it nicer to have the top button for shifting to an easier gear, and the bottom button to shift to a harder gear, so I don't have to move my thumb as far when I'm going really fast and need more gear. It's easy to move my thumb further when I'm going slow climbing. That was my thoughts behind swapping them at least. Give the brakes a chance to bed in. They are my favorite brakes now. So much power, perfect modulation, quiet, consistent, wow. Haven't ridden Aliso. Ridgway CO right now is amazing. Starts at 7000' and nice shade. Super fun, flowy, rollercoaster like trails. And you can hit Orvis hot springs after.

A trick i figure out is when climbing up hill..if you lightly put pressure on the rear brake when shifting it works every time and you can jump shift the gears...as long as you're already moving...not sure if it will work on really steep inclines...maybe it will help...🚲❣️

you can do multi shift with one button ot T-Type...just program it. I haven't ridden a bike with it as the only one that supports it is my hardtail, but I have AXS on my other two trail bikes and I love it. Never had a problem ever. there is reluctance on T-Type because the shifting is noticeably slower from what I've seen....at least when pecking through the gears.

No talking in the climb😅. After the steps in Colorado that should be cake !!!! You rock. I have both the Transmission and the AXS I agree the AXS is faster. Try shifting multiple times at once on the transmission hit it 3 times it should shift 3 times

Great video, you can change the shifting thru the sram app. I currently have mine setup to shift 3 gears at a time when you hold the shift lever for a second rather than just tapping it for a single shift. Super simple to change the settings.

Be careful with the t transmission I had that bike for two rides then took it back and got an Enduro expert. Transmission setup key flew out of the derailleur on a ride and it went wonky after that. Needs a revision…..

great video and love the new bike! I also hate the climbing, but I often just lie to myself and tell myself I love it lol. The Sram Transmission definitely shifts slower but once you get used to it and kind of expect it to be different then it's not so bad. I do enjoy being able to shift while going uphill though so I guess it's a tradeoff. Is that bike a mullet or full 29?

I agree with you, SRAM brakes are meh. I gave it a fair shot as well but i hate the modulation/build up time it takes for pads to bite the rotor.

During COVID I finally conquered Cholla on an analog. I don't remember my time, but I'm sure I was slower than average. I was just happy to have conquered it w/o stopping/putting my foot down.
