Thank you for making this! Seeing so much hate and vitriol aimed at Nakayama is incredibly disheartening. 99% of series can only DREAM of getting an adaptation on the level of CSM Season 1. Do we really want to 'cancel' such a talented director just because his vision didn't align with some fans' expectations? I'm wishing him all the best at Andraft. And it seems that this will be the trend every time something new comes out about the project. But well, at least Nakayama established his own studio at the end, so not everything is bad, I only hope that this hatred does not follow him and his new projects.

It's like those type of sakuga you see and say "hey, the sakuga just kicked in", not that it's bad or anything. Actually quite the contrary. S1 had this sort of sakuga that looked different from the norm, you can immediately tell it's not something you're used to. For reference, an anime that makes me feel like this as well is Vivy's Flourite Eye song. Not the best story wise, but the animation had this smooth yet incredibly snappy feel to it. It's like an extremely refined and thought out version of kanada style animation. Chainsaw Man felt the same way, but with Hiroyuki Okiura. Okiura style animation if you might. Grounded chaotic realism set to max.

CSM S1 is a masterpiece,, it looks unique. We never had anything like that, and nor will we ever have. I do love the Kagenashi style, but its now getting overused. Every 2nd anime is using it. But CSM S1 makes me think how was it humanly possible to make, all the movement, the color pallete, the fabric animation.... Chainsaw man was truly something unique, an anime adaptation, seeking to replicate the cinematic experience, standing out in almost every aspect and achieving a vibe so unique its amazing. I will always be obssesed with the way Nakayama evoked his ideas, and how ultimately it turned out to be a test to see if anime fans are ready for an adaptation that tries to be something new, that doesn't go by the rules, and tries to reach higher then being cool and having sakuga fights. I look at the new trailer, and while I'm sure it'll be great, I cant stop but feel how normal it looks now, I mean some moments can easily be mistaken for jujutsu kaisen. I always saw chainsaw man as an outlier, but now it seems through sheer peer pressure it has become another high budget animation that does what it "should" do, probably a great one, but still not more then what it "should" be, which is ironically maybe the opposite of the way Fujimoto writes his stories. The definition of a show ahead of its time.

Its obvious that one is made weekly and therefore has to be simplified, being more manga accurate doesn't mean better, it can help making animation more fluid (like what they would need for the movie) but its not something the anime needs to do. Movie colors look better though.

I'm getting really tired of people jumping on this false trend of now trash talking season 1 when no one was complaining about the art style and animation direction of the anime until this trailer 2 teaser dropped. Season 1 is what people wanted, and someone even admitted that after the falling devil arc, Fugimoto's quality in his work was dimming. So why the hell would i want that in my anime Adaptation? Thats ass-backwards, and I'm praying they don't reduce the quality over time. MAPPA is the same company that shafted CSM for 2 years for JJK content spam that led the series into JJK fatigue for me. You can tell how low quality some of the fights were in the Shibuya Arc, which led them to re-release an episode in better quality. Though the coloring for Season 1 in CSM was rather "still" for better terms. It had great shading. And I would rather have that than more vibrant colors and very little shading, for example. Makima in her office for Season 1 to now is a prime example.

The title is ironic. If you watch the video carefully it's just a compilation of some of the best parts of S1. People did complain about S1 animation to the point that the director was changed. This video is trying to praise his work due to all the criticism he is again recieving since the S2 trailer came out (which doesn't mean this youtuber doesn't like the new director, he actually loves it). Also when you mention MAPPA the company is not that relevant. Most people that work in anime are freelancers and are hired by different companies. Finally, that JJK chapter had to be redone because it was released unfinished. It was done, like some other Sibuya chapters, by a team of animators who are regarded as some of the best in the industry. Of course, that aesthetic is not for everyone, but it was praised by experts all around the world.

You're bringing up mappa's relevancy but also trying to justify their reason for why JJK had to re-release an episode regardless of whether it was unfinished or not. While S1 didn't quite have the look that I personally would have preferred for it, it still looked phenomenal and is easily one of the best looking shows I've ever seen. But I have to admit that I'm glad that the new staff has shed some of those heavy realism restrictions (for the action animation) that Nakayama went with. Judging by the new trailer, the action seems much more "over the top" and free which is exactly what I love (and probably most people love). It's a shame that Nakayama got so much hate but I think the series is in excellent hands with Yoshihara.

Reze movie looks way too good, it is refreshing to see this artstyle. However, the audacity of the people criticizing the previous artstyle is insane. The only reason they are taking this approach is because it is harder to make action sequences with heavy details. This is an approach Bleach has taken and that is why we never get to see a sakuga fest (except episode 6 of cour 1 and ep 4 and 7 of cour 3, hopefully mankoman will one day cover) in this arc. The previous arc looked stunning and it also gave CSM a unique look. Honestly I wanted JJK's shibuya arc to have this artstyle as well, but the fights look very cool, so it is not that big of an issue.

the manga is already an artistic masterpiece. id much rather have an adaption like season 1 that did something bold with the material instead of just replicating it 1 to 1 like the movie appears to be doing. i know anime fans have dogshit taste but to see this kind of response happening to a series as cool and artistically original as CSM is tragic

Nakayama appreciation squad reporting for duty 🫡 Sad that his recent work is all PV/MVs instead of more "exciting" stuff but I can't wait to hopefully see him do something "bigger" soon. For someone who went from a pretty solid action animator to a genuinely exceptional director/storyboarder in just a couple years, I really want to see him in a project with the appropriate scale & resources (and schedule!) for his talents 🙏, would be unfortunate if it ended up being an Atsushi Wakabayashi type situation (clear & great talent hampered by lack of opportunities and/or insufficient resources for your full potential)
