Squishy, I think my problem is not taking my finger off drive! I think us GC1 players think we are better than we are because we think we are playing fast but in reality we are waiting boost and not positioning well. Watching you play it seems like you have full control and are reading the game perfectly! This video was a great help for me!
@zaz64639 ай бұрын
I've been gc1 / gc2 for a few seasons. The main difference I see between your plays here and the other players is that you have a much stronger understanding of positioning on the field relative to other players; and you're taking that into account to do things like save boost, make smarter first touches, to know when to go to backboard for a save, and probably most importantly avoiding double commiting with tmate. Your plays and saves are simple because you naturally position yourself well to begin with. I think this is where gc's (and I) are lacking most.

In regards to the comments about good mechanics in Diamond and above. I 100% see flip resets and air dribbles in Diamond. I dunno if they're smurfs or hardstuck, I personally can't do any of those. I think the reason you don't see it, is because you only play those ranks a few times before ranking up. You don't consistently play Diamond for 10+ games for example. So you're only seeing a small snapshot of each rank. The tips on positioning has helped massively, even without good mechanics I'm playing a lot better in Diamond. Love the content, big fan, keep it up!

Seems like at this rank, no matter how much Squishy tries to tone it down, players quickly get discouraged realizing they are getting outplayed by such good control. Then it's probably not too long before they are like 'yup another smurf... gg go next'. I think players are a lot less likely to go for the flashy stuff, when it doesn't feel like they have juicy space and a favorable scoreboard to get away with it, especially when they are getting whooped by their opponents. But all that said, its still great to know that simple play can be super effective, with enough understanding of flexible less risky decision making.

since squishy reads all comments, i so hope for an answer to this. at 1:28 after you made a play, you went again and it feels like the correct play was to steal their boost and go behind your teammate, bc he should have better view of the opponents. felt like you autopiloted, but i wanna know if it was the actual correct play. btw that spot is the most common for a double commit, people steal the boost and want to keep going but they arent pros they lose momentum basically leave the mate in a 2v1, or the mate goes since he has been watching the whole time.

The main reason you dont see anyone at "these ranks" doing crazy mechanics is because you are only playing 5ish games at each rank. The sample size is too small. The players stuck at a certain rank are easily playing a couple hundred games at that rank, which is why they create a bias and become jaded. Although it is true what they are saying. Think of it from their PoV, 3 out of 4 players have to play against a revoling door of smurfs that dominate and rank up past them. Plus the fortunate player who gets carried creates an inflated rank which just leads to more volatility at each rank.

I agree with you and much of what you say great info but there is a difference of playing 2 or 3 games in a rank and people that are in a rank, there are definitely people doing this in mid champ and up.

You think you could do getting to SSL or gc and u can’t ariel above the goal height? You can only stay on the ground and not go too high in the air. Like you can save shots but that’s the highest.

I’ve been watching like all of the episodes and as a champ I might get better from watching you
