Technically this is what happens when you do change the oil. The VVTI filter is there because the oil feed for the VVTI bypasses the oil filter so is technically unfilter oil. It’s actually a serviceable item on these VVTI motors

Everyone. It's not a cover, it's not a fan, it's not whatever. It's a vvti problem. All Chasers making this noise. "The oil pressure sent from the advance or retard side path at the intake camshaft causes rotation in the VVT-i- controller vane circumferential direction to vary the intake valve timing continuously. When the engine is stopped, the intake camshaft will be in the most retarded state to ensure startability. When hydraulic pressure is not applied to the VVT-i controller immediately after the engine has been started, the lock pin locks the movement of the VVT-i controller to prevent a knocking noise. So basically this locking pin is not operating properly and causing the VVTI cam to rock back and forth ever so slightly causing a knocking noise." Now for some reason it is still making the same noise even after it has proper oil pressure. At least for a while! Maybe it solved the problem. If the oil was so dirty, I can imagine that the filter got filled up again after driving a few kms. It would worth the time to check it now. Few bolts again.. If the filter is fine then I'd drive in to Toyota and ask the mechanic guy what he thinks about the noise and I'd tell him what has been changed to make it stop. But besides the oil pressure the locking pin is fucked. That's 100% otherwise you would not hear a damn thing.

This actually makes some sense. I’m trying to find out if he ever fixed the issue or not but I can’t find any videos saying that he did or not. He didn’t read my messages on IG either so idk 🤷🏾‍♂️

Hey Rex, could it be the fan knocking on something? It sounds like a plasticy sound and if it only happens when it's warm, then wouldn't that be when the fan is on?

It has to be something with the AC/climate conrol, ac compressor or ac belt, something happens when your car reaches temperature

Hey Rex, get a screw driver and hold it on each individual injector to c if u can hear a ticking use coming from it if u can then u have a faulty fuel injector and that’ll stop that ticking sound u can’t figure out

Someone said on another video of yours that it could be some sort of locking pin within the VVTI mechanism not working properly. It was in your "JZX100 Chaser New Parts! + Turbo Noises" video.

There's a US KZbinr with a 7M named Faye Hadley who had a weird sound that turned out that because her cylinder head was resurfaced, but the head not straightened and cam bearing channels not line honed, the cams themselves were actually basically binding up in the motor and it ended up actually breaking one of her cam gears off. She found out later that this type of thing happens on JZs, too. Probably the quickest check if you can do it is pulling the cams and seeing how the journals look, if they're scored up like crazy it could be from someone doing that in the past or could be from lack of oil flow to the head, and the cam is knocking because it's got so much play it ends up being like rod knock in sound.

Approx 14-14.5psi the factory ecu cuts boost bro I wouldn't push anything further. Ceramic core isn't too strong either.

I was running 16psi through the stock turbo just last weekend, it was a warm day so didnt experience fuel cut. Drove it on a colder day and experienced fuel cut so turned it down to about 15psi and was fine. The rear blades are ceramic, so they are weak, but its hit and miss ive never blown or broken a turbo other than a kinugawa ct15b replacement, and I've owned 3 vvti 1jz's in different cars and blown 2 motors in my cressida (so 5 all up).

Could be a pully stick a long flathead or something and put it on each pully to see witch one is the one making noise and shaking or maybe u can u see it your self bye looking at each pully and see if anyone of them shake or wabble that would be the issue same with mine i have to get 2 of them on mine fixed real soon

It definitely sound like something hitting something, maybe a fan hitting some lose plastic. which is why you can only here in at operating temps cause that when the fans kick on. Idk just an idea.

probably have to clean the ocv filter a few times as the new oil circulates/brings the dirt to it. Noise could be normal (part of engine design): "jzx100.com/forum/topic/13942-1jz-vvti-cam-gear-rattle/page/2/" low oil pressure ( change oil pump) or even pinging (check with obd?, then change fuel filter etc) A lot of 1jz owners have reported it happening.

specially with the ceramic core, I would just stick at 12psi and turn it up if you upgrade the turbo core to a billet or different turbski

It sounds like a torn belt hitting the covers as it spins round. but you've just changed the cam belt. maybe there is something in the cambelt covers that dropped down there? or a rubber seal that is getting caught by the belt and making the same sound?

I have the same problem in my 1jz vvti, I haven’t figured it out but tbh I stopped caring about it. I have a friend who makes 600hp in his built 1jz he says that he has the same problem.

are you sure you don't have rod nock bro? Do a compression test, and if you have to, pull your head to see if all of the pistons come up to the same level. If one piston is lower than the rest, you have a bent rod. If your compression is the same on all pistons, it i is probably not rod knock. but if one is lower than the rest you may have a bent rod.

A rodnock would be constant from initial cold start up and increase as revs get higher , it wont just magically appear when engine is warm. He even revs it and it goes away.
