Last year our 6 yr old son was diagnosed with luekemia. He's been through so much and being quarantined from his buds makes it worse. He just had his 2nd bjj lesson last night. I haven't seen him so focused and determined in awhile. I can't wait to see what this training does for him.

I’ve never seen anything like this but it looks like a great way to learn strength and self control. When you’re frustrated, you can’t just punch them in the face, you have to keep control of your body and mind and decide what to do next.

Impressive skills. I train BJJ and I've noticed that the kids (their class is right before the adults) often display a surprisingly high level of physical competence. Probably their natural flexibility makes a lot of moves easier for them as opposed to us 30 and 40 and 50-year-olds.

@@vonnyharyanto9050 I dont think it would be bad for him since he will be training with kids his age. And if the coach doesn’t say it, you should say for him to not use it in school or with his friends. Just because 4 year olds normally are really hyper in a way. Yes, in BJJ submissions and competition are allowed for kids as young as 4 years old. But they don't learn how to break an arm, just learn how to position themselves. In competition the referees do not wait for a tapout- they intervene when a lock is on.

My kid is 6 and has been doing BJJ for just over a year - none of his class is remotely even close to this level. The instructor is great with the kids and they all love him and listen to him, but this video makes me curious if the kids in this video are way above the curve, or if my kids class is way behind. They generally spend 15 minutes playing a strategic game, then 15 minutes drilling a technique (e.g. mount escape, single leg take down etc). They never really learn it properly, but you can see with the passing of time they get better and better at things as they come up time and time again. They could certainly never put a lot of moves together and roll in the way the kids in this video are doing. Am I taking him to the wrong place, or is the above an unrealistic expectation for most kids? I don't need him to be superadvanced or anything, but I would hope that after a couple of years he would at least have a degree of bully proofness.
@jiu-jitsu
@jiu-jitsu 11 ай бұрын
It sounds like you are in a good place. The kids in this video do BJJ for a little over 2 years and one of them is an active competitor. My school is geared towards competition so there may be some clear differences. In the other spectrum, a great majority of BJJ kids classes are very recreational with games, etc. This is because the instructors are still figuring out what to teach to kids safely and they have a slow approach that slow the potential in term of competition even in the one against one aspect inside the school - which is also always competition as we spar to win.

JJ was designed for the small, weak. Not the big knuckle head type of person. This is very common because usually kids don't know what's best for them, but parents do. I have many parents clients that mandate their kids to train whether they like it or not. It's like medicine, or even better: Like vitamin.
