@@camelio10 You'll never understand until you've lived it. This movie was essentially my freshman year with my old best friend and I simultaneously regret it and cherish the memories. I'm thankful that the pain is over but I also miss it. It's not black and white, it's not good or bad. Pain is not entirely bad, it's often addicting because it's so easy to feel pain when there's nothing else to feel. I'm not sure whether or not you went through anything similar to what happened to Tracy and Evie in Thirteen, but I'd suggest you step the fuck down. There is no point in trying to envoke guilt in those that carry nostalgia of self-destructive behaviors. People that are self-destructive are sick to some degree, not animals. Just...stop.

I honestly relate to every aspect of this movie so anyone who says it’s unrealistic is wrong. this wasn’t dramatized one bit. Every word and every action in this film was legitimate. When Tracy’s mother found out she was cutting, that’s exactly how it went for me. Exactly. Same emotions, same crying till I can’t make a sound as my mother held me, grabbing my wrist. It’s horrific.
@danatufts92052 жыл бұрын
I've never understood why people cut themselves. I agree that it's horrific. So why do people do it? If someone has problems in their life, they will still have those problems after they cut, and in addition their body will bear ugly, embarrassing scars for the rest of their life. Makes no sense. Is it just a matter of people not being taught to have sense?

This movie is great but when I watched it as a kid it made me feel like I needed to be like this to be cool and accepted. Obviously now I think everything they did isn't cool. I would never let my daughter watch this as a child/teen. People really don't understand the effect movies/ TV shows can have on kids.
@muirn34 жыл бұрын
I think you're projecting. It's true that it had that effect on some people, but not on everyone. The actors and the director themselves have said that people have had different experiences watching it and tell them about it when they meet.

There’s two reasons for that. 1.) teens and young adults thinking their one or two beers at a party and mild shoplifting are paramount to what these girls are doing, and 2.) people who already have issues who haven’t yet acted on them will take anything as glamorized. I felt this movie did a good job not glamorizing it. I found it very clear that Tracy had an unstable home life and underlying mental illness. I was similar, at least with a young interest in older men. Not at 13, and for different reasons, but this movie kind of helped me see the bullshit in my own life before it got to that level.

Stealin' police cars with the senior guys Teachers said we'd never make it out alive There she was, my new best friend High heels in her hand, swayin' in the wind While she starts to cry Mascara running down her little Bambi eyes "Lana, how I hate those guys" This is what makes us girls We all look for heaven and we put our love first Somethin' that we'd die for, it's our curse Don't cry about it, don't cry about it This is what makes us girls We all stick together 'cause we put our love first Don't cry about him, don't cry about him It's all gonna happen And that's where the beginnin' of the end begun Everybody knew that we had too much fun We were skippin' school and drinkin' on the job With the boss Sweet sixteen, and we had arrived Baby's table dancin' at the local dive Cheerin' our names in the pink spotlight Drinkin' cherry schnapps in the velvet night Yo, we used to go break into the hotel Glimmerin', we'd swim Runnin' from the cops in our black bikini tops Screamin', "Get us while we're hot, get us while we're hot" (C'mon, take a shot) This is what makes us girls We all look for heaven and we put our love first Somethin' that we'd die for, it's our curse Don't cry about it, don't cry about it This is what makes us girls We all stick together 'cause we put our love first Don't cry about him, don't cry about him It's all gonna happen The prettiest in-crowd that you had ever seen Ribbons in our hair, and our eyes gleamed mean A freshmen generation of degenerate beauty queens And you know somethin'? They were the only friends I ever had We got into trouble and when stuff got bad I got sent away, I was wavin' on the train platform Cryin' 'cause I know I'm never comin' back This is what makes us girls We all look for heaven and we put our love first Somethin' that we'd die for, it's our curse Don't cry about it, don't cry about it This is what makes us girls We all stick together 'cause we put our love first Don't cry about him, don't cry about him It's all gonna happen

I felt very bad for Evie! She never had a chance
@baileymoran85853 жыл бұрын
I didn’t see it until I was an adult but Evie is a victim in her own right. A 13 year old doesn’t get to be that manipulative without being in extreme survival mode. She has her scar, and she has no relationship with her family. Her reasons change and she lets people believe whatever gets her what she wants. Her story is never told because she is running from it. Also, I think she starts out as the bad influence but both girls were a time bomb. They unknowingly influenced and escalated each other. Evie is stealing small items from a teen store. Tracy steals a whole wallet. Evie introduces Tracy to drugs. They are both making out with dudes, but Tracy takes it to a sexual level and Evie is all shocked about oral. Then Evie escalated things with Tracy’s adult neighbor. They flip flop influencing each other negatively. Both girls have trauma. Both girls have mental health issues. Evie may not suffer consequences in the movie but that’s because she has nobody that cares about her enough to give her those consequences, before something worse happens.

I loved Club Penguin and Stardoll omg 💖 but then I hit puberty when I was like 12, was raised in a below poverty area and had drug addict parents and a lot of violent traumas. For some reason when I hit puberty around age 12-13 like these girls I thought I was a grown up. I thought I knew everything; and I knew people were going to continue to hurt me so I put off a tough exterior and used drugs to numb feelings and experiences I didn't want to remember- or couldn't deal with. I saw girls in my school still very child-like and honestly wished I could feel that way- some of us are forced to grow up quick.

they were so toxic for each other but i wish they just sorted out their issues so they could have a good relationship because even when evie turned on tracy for little to no reason you could see that she still cares about tracy. Tracy looked up to her and she took advantage of that. I also think that they loved each other romantically on some level and evie was protective over tracy because of that.

Remember how we used to party up all night? Sneaking out n looking for a taste of real life, Drinking in the small town firelight... Sweet 16 and we had arrived, Walking down the streets as they whistle "hi hi!" Stealing police cars with the senior guys, Teachers said we'd never make it out alive. There she was, my new best friend High heels in her hand, swaying in the wind, And she starts to cry, mascara running down her little Bambi eyes... "Lana how I hate those guys!" This is what makes us girls We don't look for heaven, and we put love first Something that wed die, for its a curse... Don't cry bout him, don't cry about him! This is what makes us girls, We don't stick together 'cause we put love first Don't cry about him don't cry about him It's all gonna happen That's where the beginning of the end begun, Everybody knew that we had too much fun, We were skipping school and drinking on the job... With the boss! Sweet 16 and we had arrived, Baby's table dancin' at the local dive, Cheering our names in the pink spotlight, Drinking Perignon in the velvet night. Yo, we used to go break into the hotel Glimmering, we'd swim, running from the cops In our black bikini tops, screaming "get us while we're hot" We don't a whaaaaaaa- This is what makes us girls We don't look for heaven, and we put love first Something that wed die, for its a curse... Don't cry bout him, don't cry about him! This is what makes us girls, We don't stick together 'cause we put love first Don't cry about him don't cry about him It's all gonna happen The prettiest in-crowd that you had ever seen, Ribbons in our hair and our eyes gleamed mean A freshman generation of degenerate beauty queens, And you know something? You were the only friends I ever had. I got in trouble and when stuff got bad, I got sent away, Waving on the train platform crying cause I know I'm never coming back... This is what makes us girls We don't look for heaven, and we put love first Something that wed die, for its a curse... Don't cry bout him, don't cry about him! This is what makes us girls, We don't stick together 'cause we put love first Don't cry about him dont cry about him It's all gonna happen
