I agree with your main point, Malachi 4 : 3 says the same thing. But there is a physical hell right now, even if there's only spirits in it. It's called Hades (formerly Sheol in the Old Testament). Jesus went down to Sheol and led captivity captive out of there when he Ascended to the right hand of the Father. The lake of fire true hell is gehenna or the lake of fire as stated in Revelation.
