This is What We Did in 2 Nights at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park

The Oregon Coast is AMAZING!!!
As our family travels across America in our Airstream, we find so many epic locations, including the coast of Oregon! 
Day 47 of 75:
Quick stay at Nehalem Bay!! We travel south down the Oregon Coast on 101 to Umpqua Lighthouse State Park trying to make a few scenic stops along the way. Alas, roads were closed, and many areas with no turn arounds to allow for an airstream pulling truck.
At least traveling down 101 did allow for quite the scenic drive - so many adorable little seaside towns full of mom and pop kind of stores and restaurants. It wasn’t until we reached Lincoln City that we even saw a chain store or restaurant.
We even stopped at a full service gas station which we hear is quite common along the coast.
Once we are settled and fed, we go check out Umpqua Lighthouse. It was originally the first lighthouse built here in Oregon back in 1857. Although it was destroyed by a flood in 1864, the lighthouse that now resides here was rebuilt in 1891 and finished in 1894.
We end our day with campfire snuggles and local Umpqua ice cream. So yummy!! Probably the best vanilla we’ve ever had! 🍨 💕
Day 48:
We decide to travel back north on the Oregon Coast via 101 to explore a few of those stops we missed.
We start at Otter Rock and make our way back to the Umpqua Lighthouse Campground stopping at lots of scenic points, a couple lighthouses, a few beach stops, and a grocery pick up. Lots of great history lessons along the way too!
Yaquina Head Lighthouse was Made in Paris in 1868 and shipped to Oregon, Yaquina Head Light was first lit August 20, 1873
One of my favorite stops was the Devil’s Churn. It’s a super cool volcanic rock inlet, and when the tide comes in it literally has this powerful churn with the forceful waves crashing into this narrow, 80 foot long section, then rebounding back towards the ocean colliding with the incoming waves to create this magnificent display that will make your jaw drop! It’s something you honestly have to experience!
God wows us again and again with His creative masterpieces!!
Every stop took a little longer than we had planned, and by the time we got back it was almost 9pm and we were ravenous! Luckily I picked up some corn dogs for an easy, quick meal. It’s been ages since we’ve had a corn dog, and Alexis (at almost 9 years old) gets her first taste of corn dog deliciousness!! We have some salad and veggies to balance out the meal, and end our evening with the famous local Tillamook ice cream - Malted Moo 🐮 Shake flavor! Yum!!
I’m loving all this local dairy yumminess!!!
Why are there so many dairy farms you ask?
Because of all the rainfall, early settlers caught on that the Tillamook Valley was the perfect area for grazing. Hence, the dairy farming here was born. Two of our favorites: Umpqua started in 1931 and Tillamook started in 1909.
