Many of us have let our children down by not being there for them at crucial stages in their development, not being there as fathers and not being the role models we should be. The breakdown of the family has had a drastic impact on our children and it's time we took responsibility for our children and stop keep blaming the government for our own failings. I hear the argument all the time from our community there are no youth centres etc. So what's stopping black parents from banding together and setting up their own youth centres? It's not that we don't have the money we are just not prepared to invest in our children the way people of other races do. I feel for you. I was also born in Norbury, Croydon in Aug. 1955. Moved to E. Croydon 18 months later. Moved 9 Miles away in '87 and very rarely, if ever, return even though I still have family there. My parents both passed away earlier this century having continued living there until those times. They'd be horrified now, but I'm thankful I don't have to rescue them because they're at peace. I only recognise the lie of the land now, not the attitudes. Aside from that, it was a tiny bit reassuring to see that not *_everybody_* in these street scenes was an itinerant thug (without labelling left or right wing) - amongst them were some, a few, trying to clear the mess and challenge the troublemakers, despite it all happening around them. Brave folk within their own community standing proud and tall for what's decent and correct. I salute them.
