I actually have some sort of world history for an isekai i want to write. Basically there were these two alien civ (the ancient, who came from the milky way and the elders, whom came from the wandering solar systems) long story short, these two had a war 7 milion years ago, both hybernated for an unknown reason. Meanwhile, the various worlds around the galaxy started to form sentient life. Then, about 75.000 years ago, some members of the two species woke up and decided to an experiment: they terraformed a donut-shaped world, put life from around the galaxy on it, and then put members of sentient species on it to see what happened.

Worldbuilding is also trying to use Gplates and yelling at the computer because the measure velocity tool is not working right and it’s showing the velocity of that plate as going at ~0.07 cm/yr when I did the math myself and it should be going ~2.1 cm/yr and so now you have to just trying and use it without the measure velocities feature and what you end up with may or may not be possible. I’m okay (but not really)

As an aspiring writer and avid world builder, I don’t just slap up a map in 2 seconds and adding names that are just modern words with ‘ia’ at the end of it. What it’s actually like is research, and more research, and then you come up with realistic ways that civilizations might form around the magical parts of the world, and then you research old languages for names or create new ones. And only then do you create a map, and revise it about 10-15 times. And you also need a selling point or unique idea before even starting it to stand out from the crowd. I’m no Tolkien, no one is. But I don’t respect people who call themselves ‘world builders’ and then create the most generic, boring and half baked world for the fifth time this year.

I wanted to get this off my chest but two things that annoy me the most about some world building is making a writing system that's just English 2.0. The only example I have of this is Star Wars with Aurebesh, pretty much every time it's used in the franchise it's just English because all the letters follow the exact same rules as English ones, even the name Aurebesh is Or-eb-esh so it has the same rule of making two combined letters make a different sound from the letters that make it so I question what point of having a different writing system is in the first place. I digress of course but my other point was when names are made a bit over generic. Over using the ending suffix ia was one I noticed like take a name. Let's say galaxy remove the y and put ia so galaxia, or just name stuff only expecting English speakers to see it or just not have interesting language variety at all. Just my personal gripes though
