Pokemon Cards have been out for over 27 years. Through the years, we have seen giant shifts in popularity. Throughout those shifts, we have seen many changes when it comes to collecting Pokemon Cards. Like all things, we have adapted and evolved throughout the years to become better Pokemon Card Collectors. We take better care of our cards. We do more research. We become more efficient.
As the Pokemon Card Collecting Space continues to change, so does the attention that Pokemon receives. No longer is Pokemon just a collectible card game. Instead, Pokemon Cards are a hobby that is shared by people from all different areas of expertise. Competitive Pokemon Card Players, Pokemon Card Stores, and even Pokemon Card Investors have joined the circle, each providing a different perspective when it comes to level of interest.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game has also changed throughout the years. With Pokemon Card Pull Rates being extremely dynamic and different rarities constantly being introduced, it certainly can be tough to keep up with. However, even with all of the changes, I think one thing is for certain, and that is that Pokemon is here to stay. The question however remains, what will it look like in the future?

Same. Started out loving pack opening. Then drifted away as I got older. Came back to the hobby 6 years later but stuck to just buying decks and playing instead of opening packs cause it was cheaper. Now I have recently just got back into it and love opening again. Trying to get back into playing also but time is limited so tough.

2008/2009... The Great Recession. The worst recession since The Great Depression. Collecting Pokemon was the last thing for most people during this period.

Fun fact a few years ago a house fire claimed all of my cards. Baseball, pokemon, everything. I randomly bought a burning shadows pack from target and pulled the rainbow Charizard. I then gave that card to a random kid ....... covid happened and I started collecting, now I focus on just playing lol.

In 2013 I tried to sell a handfull of LP base set holos (blastoise, machamp, nidoking, gyrados) for $16 and the game shop i mailed them to sent them back to me. They either didn't like the condition or didn't want to pay $16. Now I'm super happy they did. It's interesting to see the changes in the hobby.

It would be super cool if pokemon released official numbers on how many boxes/packs were printed in total of all given sets. That would be helpful for data purposes probably.

When I got back in from 151 as an original collector from the 90's, I was pretty pissed off to see to get a whole set I'd need to buy a UPC, ETB, zapdos box, Alakazam box and poster pack... Would have much rather just bought packs to try and finish the set. Just left with alot of junk I don't want or need. Bring back simpler times

There's nothing wrong with being 'data driven,' if that's your thing. But, if collecting/playing is your hobby, then forget the numbers. Don't buy recklessly/irresponsibly, but enjoy the ride. Crack open packs if that's your jam. Get yourself to every local tournament if that's your fancy. If there's a single that gets you excited, go out and find it. I wrecked my alpha/beta MTG cards playing on the sidewalk waiting for the bus. The thing is, I'm a bag of old bones now (slight hyperbole) and no part of me wishes I sleaved more of my cards...or spent less of my time enjoying them with my buddies...or wishes I held on to more "sealed product" to get the right ROI. I'm just grateful I had the opportunity to enjoy TCG/CCG in an era where there was no data. There were no trends. There was no "outlook." There were just a bunch of us dorks finding a place in this world where we felt together & like we belonged.

Great great video. I just love opening packs of any kind. The artworks are amazing for the past few years compared to what they used to be when I was a kid. Idc about what they're worth. There's something nice about getting the hits. I'm trying to add playing the game to my collecting regimen because I think it adds a completely different dimension to ripping packs.

We've never had a time where so much unopened products were getting stashed away for the future. A few months ago I was checking my old cards in a box and decided to start collecting again, it was funny to see that most of my old cards are from Base set to Neo Destiny, then after that I saw how from time to time I tried to get back in, I have cards from E series, Black and White, Diamond and Pearl, and I never got completely in again until Scarlet and Violet. Also, I think part of it is that now I'm 35 and can actually fund the hobby. :D Still, so many good memories. :D

About 2 years ago I was chasing hard to complete my Evolving skies binder. I have like 5 Alt Arts left and lots of gold cards, and now that I have come back to finish it seeing the booster box prices I kind of got upset that I opened so many of my booster boxes trying to complete the set binder. But then I remembered how fun each pull was and for getting them at MSRP I have no regrets. Like I always hated keeping sealed product, or maybe I just cant haha. I am completing the binder Master set this year y'all!!!

I collect since 2007 until now and now excatly what you mean Danny. Back then when i started collecting the prices for the cards were so cheap compared to now. When you bought a card for 30€ it was much money and now its way more. Between 2010 and 2013 i mainly bought collections for 50€-100€ and its crazy what you have got for your money. As you showed in your Video its very interesting to see how Things and prices are changing. I love it to keep on track how the prices and the market are changing. Sorry for my bad englisch.

its crazy how cheap JP displays are at the moment here in Germany. Almost all the latest sets are under 50€.last year the starting price was 70-120€. So I guess good for opening up some packs.

Yes Base set packs for €2,50 a piece. I purchased 3 on clearance and got an Eevee Holo #11 Wotc Promo alongside it. That were the only 3 Base set packs I purchased myself. I received a lot of packs back then for my birthday or christmas and such but never purchased any other base set packs. I might as well been the first kid in the entire Netherlands back then that had fossil cards. I had a neighbour who was also my babysitter that visited Canada yearly for a vacation and they brought back some Fossil packs. Everyone was going crazy at school and in the neighbourhood. Good times.

I like looking back and seeing how the hobby has actually grown. It is a little annoying that the speculative elements are there and they're definitely getting a lot more silly with their behaviour, but if you ignore them and just wait some of their nonsense out you can still get what you want. I think the ONLY thing I don't like is the spike in promotional random boxes, I'd preferred having a smaller selections of things (think booster boxes/sleeves) instead of the million or so boxes we now get for tiny promo cards etc. Buuuut even then I suppose you can say "Ignore them if you don't like them".

I love ripping packs however the cost, hit rates, and the garbage qc are wearing me down. I wish they put more effort into the holos and reverses. Opening a pack and not getting a hit would still feel somewhat rewarding.
