Hi Chris, I am a subscriber from NY. I migrated to the US as a teen ager originally from the Philippines. I just want to enlighten you on some culture and practices of Filipinos. Please do not mistaken silence whenever you ask questions as being rude. And be patient with your dealings with my Countrymen as spoken English and written english is entirely different. Besides the fact that they tend to shy away specially to foreigners(not all but though)Though the medium of teaching in school is in English, there is a lot of Regional differences when it comes to language(dialects as such). I admire the way you try your best to be polite and you try to immerse yourself with the culture not only in the Philippines but to all the Countries you have been to. Good luck to all your travels and keep the culture pf positivity. All the best Sir!

Correct Manong, conversational English to Pinoys is not the same as written or reading where you actually see words and the pace.... In other words, reading and writing involve less " nose bleeding". lol. I dont know who proliferated that belief that the Pi has 80% of English speakers. Perhaps speaking, reading and writing are just lumped all together to make it easier for the stat(s). IMO.

Filipino food is so good i just cant stop thinking about it! I lived in a Filipino village in Hawaii called banana camp every friday my neighbor and his buddies would have big cookouts and cook all kinds of dishes like ten different styles and they would always call me to come help chop meat and help cook luckey for me i really paid attention because i knew i always wanted to eat good filipino food and make it for my family and now i got them stuck on it and we are samoans that eat filipino food three to four times a week! Thank you to my P.I Brothers and Sisters God Bless you always.✌❤🤗

just a suggestion in communicating with Filipinos, because I noticed that sometimes when you speak english to them, you tend to do broken english to try to make them understand your questions better.. if it doesnt work and you wont get a proper answer, it means that broken english is confusing. in that case, just drop the broken english and speak in normal structured english, they'll understand better and it wont be as confusing. like when you ask about what is their recommendation of how many food should 1 person take, instead of saying "1 person, how many dish? 1..2..3..?" just say "how many food is enough for 1 person?" or "how many food do you think I need to order?" thanks for appreciating Filipino cuisine. my favorites as well are coconut based dishes, specially crabs, which is in local terms "Ginataang Alimasag or Alimango".

What we Filipinos usually say is "one order is good for how many persons?" Which is still much better and more understandable than whatever broken English phrase he was saying. It just felt like he was talking to us like we were stupid with that broken English.
@splicelifeGR9 ай бұрын
@@redfullmoon yes it's common for us to ask "one order is good for how many person?" but I think that is not what he wanted to ask and a totally different meaning. gusto nya lang malaman ilang putahe kadalasan binibili ng isang tao, specially na sya lang naman mag-isa ang kakain.. not the other way around, kung hanggang ilang tao kasya ang isang order which translates to the common question that you pointed po.
@redfullmoon9 ай бұрын
@@splicelifeGR hindi maintindihan tanong nya, one person, 2 or 3.

Yes as a Filipina, I agree, it's very rare when a Filipino specially in carinderia who isn't friendly or welcoming. Hence I always choose the friendliest ones when u try to ask them and they explain nicely I always go back to them. It's really uncommon for a tindera or sales staff to be unfriendly. Almost all tindera are friendly but ofc there's always that one who is indifferent which is very rare as I also love eating In karinderia and I always go back for the service more than the food since there's so many carenderias everywhere. The lady in white is friendlier and more cheerful. maybe she is introvert 😅, this is common in other countries but not the Philippines.
@LuntianMagpakailanman10 ай бұрын
The one the tindera mentioned "pagi“, that's a stingray/manta ray in Tagalog. I'm glad you like the "gata" (coconut milk) dishes. I agree regarding being underrated when it comes to food since our dishes don't look appealing on camera, but once you get to taste them, you'd want more of it. That makes all the difference ;)

Chris- the Fish you ate in coco milk is called Pagi- or smaller version of the giant sting ray! It would have been more delicious if the added yellow turmeric with the ginger. Also, I hope my eyes are not mistaken but that meat dish you said chicken really looked more like Paksiw na Pata- or pork hocks in soy sauce vinegar and sugar. Sweet vinegary delish, with bay leaves, black pepper, garlic and dried flowers. Maybe the chicken adobo was beside it on the display and the tinder’s misunderstood you.
