It used to be a must-take on most bruiser champs, if not with legend, then with unflinching secondary, since getting CC'd would mean a mage 100-0 you. But now that people are tankier, not having tenacity in runes isn't such a big deal, since you can get it in items too. Obviously thought, it helps to have even more tenacity in some situations however.

@@michalis7023 Tenacity will always be important dude wdym? It’s importance doesn’t correspond to which patch it is currently. Having more tenacity means less time controlled, hence, being able to output more inputs, DPS, dodge skillshots, and create pressure overall. Aatrox greatly benefits from this since every autoattack reduces your passive cd by 1-4 seconds(don’t remember the specifics). If you didn’t have tenacity as aatrox or anyone in general, you wouldn’t be able to pump up the damage that you should be doing which is equivalent to aatrox sustain since he needs to be continuously fighting in order to be tanky and lifesteal

I have a real question for you, and I am asking this seriously : Why build Eclipse over divine sunderer ? First, about DS's downside when compared to eclipse : It doesn't have the lethality. and doesn't have the Omnivamp... and that's about it. Eclipse gives a tiny bit more AD. Are those stats really that good on Aatrox to throw away the strengths of DS ? DS gives you Ability Haste, which Eclipse, despite being a mythic Item, is the only non ADC mythic not to give Ability haste. when compared to the 20 ability hast of DS and not even talking about the 48 ability haste provided by Goredrinker with a full build. Then, there's DS's passives. It's mythic passive is straight up better stats, so there is not much to say about it, but what really makes me question why you would pick Eclipse Over DS is the insane Spellblade it has. DS's Spellblade deals twice the amount Eclipse does, while healing you for the ammount you would have dealt using Eclipse (half the damage dealt), which compensates for the Omnivamp lost... and that on 1/5 of the cooldown on Eclipse. DS even gives a bit of HP on top. So : Is the Lethality enough to justify Eclipse over DS ? Or is it maybe the fact that you can activate it's passive without basic attacks ? I don't belive it's the Omnivamp, since the healing you get from a single proc of DS's Spellblade is equal to the amount the 7% Omnivamp heals you if you only basic attacked your opponent to death from full HP. Also, the omnivamp is reduced on Q so it is much less effective. I'm an amateur, so I was just interrested in your justification and reasoning about that. I don't have enough time to watch all your content and have only been watching on KZbin, but if you already talked about it in one of your VODs or anywhere else, I'd be interrested to read about it. If anyone in the comments knows about that as well, I'm interrested. Been watching your gameplay for a couple of weeks now. Love it ! Very entertaining guy. Best to you.

@vergil vaughn Yes, but as I detailed in my question, the healing you get from a single proc of the DS Spellblade is equivalent to the one you would get from downing someone from full HP, if not, more since the 7% Omnivamp will never allow you to heal more than 7% of your targets max HP, and you heal less from your Q because of it being an AOE meaning, you rarelly heal for the maximum amout using Eclipse. I wonder if the Lethality really is that valuable. And that isn't even mentioning the fact that Ability Haste, Which completlly goes to the wayside when building Eclipse remains an important stat for Aatrox, him being a manaless champion. I'll be testing both Item in practice tool sometime soon, but I still strugle to see the benefits. I'll take what said into consideration for scenarii when testing. Thanks for your input.

@vergil vaughn Omnivamp does heal based off of targets HP, since you only get as much as you can deal to said targets, and you hardly ever deal more than the target's maximum HP. So the 7% Omnivamp, by dealing 100% of your target's health WITHOUT USING Q, since it would heal you less if you did, will only heal you for 7% of the target's max HP at best. The fact that Aatrox already has a lot of omnivamp built into his kit makes the choice even more questionable. The Damage of DS's Spellblade is also Always above Eclipse's. Double in fact. but in some cases, it can proc multiple times before Eclipse even has the Chance to do so. Eclipse may be better in lane for quick trades at reagular intervals, but DS is better in all-ins, as it's 6% target's max HP heal is intantaneous and doesn't require you to kill your opponent.

I believe that eclipse would be more consistent and reliable. Also vs people who build thornmail you can just avoid auto attacking in order to not get healing reductioned. Which is a pretty good bonus. Eclipse omnivamp will give you some sustain in lane and splitpushing later too. Aatrox likes to AA inbetween ability hits. But usually in teamfights you rather just spam out your ability, because of AOE and that you need to dish out dmg fast in order to heal.

I don't think the healing from Ds is that important in every scenario especially on a champ that heals for the damage he does and in a patch where u have to deal with armor and health buffs. To me eclipse feels so strong because it makes the champ seem like the pre 12.10 Aatrox and by this i mean that u have huge early kill pressure.Your opponent has to respect you cause in one good rotation u can actually kill him,a thing that happens less frequently(atleast for me) right now when u're going goredrinker or sunderer first item(they're both conceived as extended fights/hit and run items). With eclipse u can punish pretty much every bruiser/squishy in short trades(don't forget the eclipse shield and the passive that grants you armor pen)without even exposing too much(to be really efficient with Ds u have to go for spell plus auto but with eclipse is not even necessary and we also have to consider the fact that dirk is way stronger than phage in terms of early kill pressure and sadly we can't really consider sheen a thing).Ds on the other hand feels like the best choice against tanks cause eclipse doesn't really work against pure tanks, and u're also going to have extended fights(tbh against tanks also goredrinker works fine,but sunderer just stat-checks every existing thing and gives you a way to kill turrets to put pressure).So with Eclipse: u're getting haste with cleaver and serylda so there's no cd problem, u're threatening squishies plus almost every bruiser that builds armor thanks to eclipse passive/cleaver and your snowball potential is actually a thing(we are talking about solo queue so that's pretty important). With Ds: u're playing a lane that u can't easily snowball (tanks)so u have to bait your opponent into extended fights that u will always win thanks to the blood stance and ds passive interaction(even more if u're considering ult) and it allows you to actually hit turrets so u can play side lane if your team is not doing really well(at that point if the tank matches you in side lane u can easily win or if they collapse u can bait for objectives,if an assassin or a bruiser is matching you and he's not fed af u can play it cause you're not getting one-shotted like previous patches and if he's fed u're actually getting attention and removing him from fights).That's how it generally works for me. I do a little thing if i don't really know where i'm going with the matchup(if lane is doomed i'll go for goredrinker cause it allows me to play the frontline and to be a meat shield for the entire team for the most time possible)and i'm insecure, before choosing i rush caulfield to take time,then at some point u have 3 choices: u build it into gore if the case is the one that i described before, u build it into ds if they're averagely tanky and u're one of the main damage dealers of your team or if you think that it'll be most likely a side lane game or you build it into black cleaver for a late snowball rush Eclipse.

With goredrinker is even harder to kill champs because of durability patch . Goredrinker is better in teamfights for sure . After goredrinker you can still buy armour pen. Your R and goredrinker synergize perfectly. Why specifically eclipse then? Why no prowler, divine, or even duskblade. Because if they buy thornmail, just don't AA them. Eclipse. % hp dmg, Shield, Healing, And dmg. With the same omnivamp as goredrinker. But generally better dmg than goredrinker, it makes him in the end heal more than with goredrinker. However in teamfights that might be different. But in duels eclipse would beat goredrinker a hella lot.
