@@AndrewHartsock Dang... Bike dealers are shady as hell. I had been trying to get a CBR500R for a while. Had everything approved through Honda all I had to do was go in and pick a bike and ride out with it. They tried to rob me for every dime they could with their fees and bs. The bike came out to being the same price as a CBR600RR when they were done. Told em' to keep it. I literally laughed all the way home.

@@187onasimp good for you man! Stand firm&do exactly what you did. If they're throwing extra bs in so they can increase the profit, don't give them any buissness. That's just shady. My local shop that I'm getting my first bike at is great, they gave me the pricing sheet&told me exactly what the 2 fees are for(state&doc) with nothing extra, anything else(maintenance that needed to be done prior to getting it ready for sale) was already factored into the price.

If you're on a low budget I'd recommend Honda CBR600F , they only go as fast as you twist the throttle so you can't blame the bike! You'll get similar performance from a Honda CBR400RR , Kawasaki GPZ500S, ER6f and should be able to buy privately for less than $1800.

I think I’m going to buy one next year. I looked at the 400 Ninja, but it’s a lot lighter, and I’m going to be using it for commuting to work, so the extra weight will make it more stable on the interstate in traffic. My Harley is great, but I want something more sporty to hit the twisty’s with!!! I thought about a faster bike, but it’s way to tempting to go triple digit speeds. 😂 This bike is fast enough to have fun on, and not get me into to much trouble!!!Plus the fact that it’s a Honda, and they’re quality, and reliability are unmatched in my opinion. The naked bikes really look good to, so I have a lot of comparing to do, but right now this one is my top choice.

The only way you learn is with time and a lot of it, I don't advise bikes that can do zero to sixty in less than 7 seconds and more than 100 mph for beginners, o yeah and another thing - You will fall at least once eventually, I mean a real accident not just losing your balance and toppling to the side. Back in 94 I was talking to a friend and he wasn't much older than I but he had a ton of experience and I said "I wanna buy a CBR600F but I know that all I have to do is push on that throttle and I'm doing 140 mph, and that scares me" He looked at me perplexed and said - "The bike only goes as fast as you allow it to go." and he really meant it and it just didn't make sense to me at the time. Now it does. Think about it, unfortunately I had to learn the hard way less than a year after he told me that, both legs broken an exposed femur a broken pelvis a paralyzed foot and a paralyzed arm. I recovered 99.9% because the only part of my body that didn't hit anything was my head, it was raining, I was drunk and I was going fast, I was young and stupid. Today, closer to 60 I do not take any risks, I do not compete with hot headed kids on the road and I have to be able to see a mile in front of me devoid of traffic to accelerate to 120 and it's only for a few seconds.

I was looking at a CBR 500 as my first bike as well, but ended up going for a SV650S as I wanted something that I could keep for a longer time. Granted, I am from Europe where the requirements for a MC license and education to get is quite a bit more thorough compared to the states. I learned to drive on an SV650 (naked), so I was comfortable with that HP level as well. Would definitely not start with a 600cc super sport bike for any beginner though - they are not comparable at all as you also say.
