Well this would be true in most cases. I have an honest mechanic. Also my Dad is a mechanic and he can tell if my mechanic is BSing me.

as a technician, and fellow youtuber I am sorry, those shady shops are the worst, i work at a dealership and thankfully we don't do this, but you can never really put it past anybody

Damn. As a mechanic in Denmark I can guarantee you it doesn’t happen here, as it’s extremely illegal for us to lie to customers. One of the biggest auto repair shops just closed as they were doing this to people, and received a fine they couldn’t pay so the state just took their shit.

It's really not hard to do basic repairs with the help of the internet. I didn't know much about cars 3 years ago but ever since I replaced my own water pump and realized I paid $90 for everything compared to the $750 quote from the mechanic. I just look up repairs other people have done and I'm k8nd of lucky I drive an 08 ford fusion because how old they are I find repair videos pretty easy and have damn near replaced all but the engine and transmission in my car. Yes it cost some money for the tools needed but when you think about it, I was quoted $750 to replace my water pump and I was able to buy the parts and do it myself for $90. I bought tools but they will last a l9ng time for many more car repairs in the future and it's almost nice to know I will have knowledge of how to fix cars when my kids start driving in a couple years and I will make sure they never get ripped off because I will do the work on their cars free of charge if they buy the parts
