Got an F3, in the clear 🧐 but I'm only a beginner, Fuji X-T2 is my main, just started learning film. Medium Format would be awesome but its like 3 times more expensive to work with here in Norway. I use fuji and laugh at myself all the time for becoming the type of photographer I never wanted to be - flower shooting, bokeh loving, sling bag slinging photo 'snob'. Used to shoot surf photography with nikon before moving away from the surf. Shits funny to me. Stereotypes exist for a reason and it's to laugh at ourselves.

Well, I didn't "enjoy" the video, because it makes me feel sad about some parts of the so-called photo "community". Nevertheless, you have spoken very true words. Why on earth does it get so toxic in many cases when it comes to brands (and Nikon being just the example you've picked here)? I'm not sure if this ambassador concept really pays off for manufacturers: When someone makes a toxic experience with a [put brand here] community, they go like "Uhh, I don't wanna be like that", but then, back in their own bubble, they act the very same. smh

The whole ambassador thing is nothing different than pro sport. As I commented separately, I went to a Leica masterclass where one of the teachers was actually shooting Canon, and was handed a Leica like the rest of us for the week-end... if you're at this level of professionalism, it's got nothing to do with an artistic decision and barely anything with personal preference. If a camera brand one I don't use call me one day and say, "ok so you can have all this gear for free or significant reduction, access to new cameras and a massive marketing boost and we'll hire you for masterclasses"... I mean I'll hardly say no. But I'm aware than Nikon and Canon are corporation. My favorite brand was Olympus, loved their "smaller is better" philosophy, the prices were so much better than the competition, etc so... of course they got acquired by some Chinese giant and their products gonna turns too crap. On the other hand,I really do love Leica with all my heart, I think there is no better experience than shooting a Leica, truly I do, but the brand philosophy is garbage. They tell everyone they're the best purists while making all their money from selling lenses to cellphone compagnies and sensors to Panasonic... But then again those are all corporations, even Olympus, there can't be a small batch digital camera company or something (some tried but failed quickly). Interestingly enough I recall a Nat Geo article that put Fuji and Oly cameras as top choices for travel photographers, Nikon wasn't even mentioned because no mirrorless back in the days lmao

One last thing, all the old legends shooting Nikon started when Nikon was pretty much the only choice for photojournalism pros. So they shoot what they always shot with. I think after 30 years rowing the world with your full-size kit you don't really care about Sony's 999 af points or mirrorless... xD

@@jas_bataille I like the sports analogy, although it rather applies to sports with "instruments" (in lack of a better word) like tennis (racks), rowing (boats), motorsports and alike. Yeah, let's take motorsports as an example: You won't win the Baja rallye with an F1 car and vice versa. Each category has their own requirements, and not every car / camera brand meets the needs of every sort of race / scenery one might think of. btw, 1) JIP who acquired Olympus are Japanese and 2) all the above applies mostly to the _online_ part of the “community“. As soon as there are meet-ups taking place, I've made other, better experience which reminds me of car locker room talk: handling, mileage, sound, and sometimes cargo space.

When my old Voigtländer rangefinder camera won't deliver because it was made for mainly b&w. When I don't want to shoot digital with my Olympus. Or just when I'm feeling lucky. As I'm mostly shooting vintage cameras nowadays (with a free pass of Vue, btw) I couldn't care less about the Mirrorless Wars that are going on atm. Find me a nice lens with FD mount and I'll get a Canon. Send me money and I might consider a Mamiya, Leica, Rollei, or more up-to-date, a Phase One, or whatever suits my needs, you name it. It takes a lot of pressure out of the discussion (and might heal G.A.S. as well) if the first question is not "What camera brand did you shoot this beautiful picture with?" anymore.

So let me those all brand elitist a little something : you could give a Nikon ambassador the 1st generation iPhone and they'll come back with gold. Give them a better deal and the'll switch brands. This game is like pro sport, and saying you'll never use anything besides Nikon (or Leica, or whatever) is like saying you'll never get a pair of Nike cause you're loyal to Adidas or cause of your favorite player... this is an industry like any other, if a brand of cameras I don't use call me one day and their products fit my workflow and philosophy, why would I refuse this kind of marketing deal?!

My two cents on the camera wars: cameras are personal, the best camera in your eyes might be the worst for me and vice versa. Ultimately cameras are just tools, nobody is going to be able to tell what brand you're shooting with in the final image. Im a Fuji user and I've had the pleasure of meeting some Fuji users and users of other brands... and I can get behind your comment. There is something special in the Fuji forums and film photography forums, it seems it doesn't really matter what equipment you are using, they are all there for you. But when I used a nikon, I always felt like if I didn't have the latest or the mos expensive equipment I wouldn't be like good enough for the nikon community.
